When Paul arrived in Corinth, he had to be quite weary. Not long after this, Paul wrote to his new Christian friends back in Thessalonica.--1 Thessalonians 2-1-2- For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain, 2 but after we had already suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.--He had suffered and been mistreated, and was facing much opposition. That was before the situation in Berea and the hurried travel to Athens, where he had to fly solo. He had to be worn down after all that, plus the 50- miles of walking from Athens to Corinth. As the chapter opens, Paul does not yet know he is going to be able to stay there for a year and a half. Later, Paul described the time when he arrived there in these words---1 Corinthians 2-3- I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling,--Let that sink in. This is the great Apostle Paul, but he is so beaten up and worn down, and probably feeling lonely, that he went on to explain that the only reason for any initial ministry fruit in Corinth was the demonstration of the Holy Spirit and of power He gives.
