Pavi Thomas introduces us to the question that frames our Lent series:
"So here’s the question we’re going to be focused on during Lent
What might life look like if our attention were focused on the things
that God is focused on?
That’s why this series is called The Attentive Life
We’re setting out to be attentive to those things that are on God’s
heart
And we’re going to spend the next several weeks learning to turn
our hearts to what is on his heart
So… the Attentive Life
Where do we begin?
Well, we begin with Jesus
Jesus lived his life completely and consistently focused on what was
on God’s heart
And as we take a close look at the life of Jesus given to us in the
gospels, we discover a very simple three-fold pattern that we can
actually follow
First, Jesus was attentive to God his Father
There’s a simplicity to Jesus’ life
He is constantly listening to his Father… It’s like he’s going about his
day, but his heart is turned toward his Father at all times… listening,
responding, following
Second, Jesus was attentive to those around him
His friends, his disciples, his followers… that little community that
wandered around with him
And his attentiveness to them had one distinct focus… love
He loved them… he loved them all the way to the cross and beyond
And third, he was attentive to the world around him
And his attention has one laser-beam focus
Luke 19.10 …the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son… "
