Hero Bishop Show

Toy collecting has its own species of people. The in-box collector, the Hot Toys soft-goods perfectionist, the import figure elitist, the third-party collector, the Facebook Marketplace lowballer, the life-size bust guy, and the “it’s an investment” guy. If you’ve been in this hobby long enough, you’ve definitely met these collectors… and maybe become one of them.

Which collector type should I roast in Part 3?

Everyone recommends the same classic X-Men stories—but what about the hidden gems? In this video, we’re diving into three essential X-Men storylines every comic fan should experience: Phalanx Covenant, Onslaught, and the legendary 1991 X-Men relaunch by Jim Lee. Whether you’re a brand-new reader or someone who grew up during the 90s comic boom, these stories helped shape everything that came after.

From techno-organic horror to one of Marvel’s biggest crossover events, these comics prove why the X-Men remain one of the greatest superhero teams ever created.

Why did Wolverine suddenly start wearing a black do-rag during the ’90s?

It wasn’t just a new look.

After Magneto ripped the adamantium out of Logan’s body during Fatal Attractions, Wolverine entered one of the darkest periods in his history. His healing factor went into overdrive, his bone claws emerged, and he slowly became more feral than ever before.

With X-Men ’97 bringing classic comic storylines back into the spotlight, this could be one of the biggest Wolverine stories casual fans need to know.

In this video we break down:
• Fatal Attractions
• Magneto vs. Wolverine
• Bone claws explained
• Feral Wolverine
• The meaning behind the do-rag
• What this could mean for X-Men ’97

What’s up y’all, today we are talking about how scalpers completely ruined action figures AND high-end statues like Iron Studios. Empty shelves, bot-sniped pre-orders, insane markups on $25 figures and $300+ statues — it’s sucking the joy out of nerd collecting. Real talk, receipts, comedy breaks, and me losing my mind a little in this unfiltered rant.

Age of Apocalypse wasn’t just another X-Men crossover. It was Marvel’s biggest gamble during one of the most chaotic periods in comic book history. With comic sales collapsing, speculation running wild, and bankruptcy looming around the corner, Marvel replaced their entire X-Men line with a dark alternate universe where Apocalypse ruled the world. In this video we break down:

• Legion Quest
• Magneto’s X-Men
• Weapon X and Jean Grey
• Astonishing X-Men
• Amazing X-Men
• Factor X
• Generation Next
• Gambit and the X-Ternals
• X-Man
• Marvel’s financial crisis
• Fabian Nicieza’s underrated contributions
• Why Age of Apocalypse still holds up today

Was Age of Apocalypse Marvel’s greatest event?

I finally canceled my weekly comic pull list.

Not because I hate comics…
But because I LOVE comics.

Modern comics just don’t hit the same anymore. The stories, the characters, the endless reboots, the events, the FOMO marketing… it started feeling more like obligation than passion.

Meanwhile I’ve got stacks of unread omnibuses full of the stuff I actually grew up loving: 90s X-Men, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Spawn, Batman, Spider-Man, Age of Apocalypse and all the insane comic book chaos that made this hobby fun in the first place.

This video is about comic collecting burnout, nostalgia, modern comic problems, and why older fans are walking away from weekly books.

If you grew up loving late 80s and 90s comics… this one’s probably gonna hit home.

After my last Punisher recommendations video, a lot of you asked for more reading suggestions. So I went back into the collection and pulled out three Punisher books that deserve more attention.

Today we’re looking at the classic 1986 Punisher miniseries, the underrated graphic novel Intruder, and the wild Marvel/DC crossover Deadly Knights.
If you’re looking to dive deeper into Frank Castle’s world, these are great books to add to your reading list.

Which Punisher comic would you recommend to a new reader?

Collecting used to be simple.

Now the hobby has evolved into complete insanity.

In this episode of the Hero Bishop Show, we break down the different types of collectors in nerd culture, from high-end statue elitists and Marvel Legends addicts to anime statue “art experts,” vintage toy historians, and the super serious dudes trying to convince everyone their toys are investment assets.

We also talk about the REAL collectors… the people who only buy something when it actually means something to them.

If you collect comics, statues, action figures, Hot Toys, Marvel Legends, anime figures, or vintage toys… you’re probably in this video somewhere.

And honestly?

We all got issues.

Spawn (1997) should have changed comic book movies forever… instead it became one of the biggest missed opportunities in superhero film history. In this episode of the Hero Bishop Show, we break down exactly what went wrong with the Spawn movie, from the terrible CGI and confused tone to the behind-the-scenes chaos that doomed the film from the start. We also dive into:

• Why John Leguizamo as Clown was the BEST part of the movie
• How practical effects outshined the CGI
• Why the studio sanitized Spawn’s darker horror elements
• How this movie had the SAME problem as Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad
• And why Spawn disappeared from theaters for decades after this

Featuring breakdowns of the original Spawn comics by Todd McFarlane, the HBO animated series, and the tragic wasted potential of Michael Jai White as Spawn. This isn’t just a bad movie review… this is comic book movie history. Appreciate you watching and riding with the Hero Bishop Show. For press, partnerships, or business contact: [email protected]

Thomas Jane understood Frank Castle better than modern Marvel does. Yeah, the 2004 Punisher movie wasn’t perfect. The Florida setting was weird. Making Frank a cop was dumb. BUT… This version still understood:

• the skull
• the coldness
• the tactical mindset
• the psychological warfare
• and the FEAR Punisher should create.

Meanwhile modern Punisher adaptations often feel more like:

• rage monsters
• emotional breakdowns
• or Wolverine with guns.

In this Hero Bishop Show breakdown we cover:

• why Thomas Jane still feels comic accurate
• the Garth Ennis influence
• the Russian fight from Welcome Back, Frank
• the popsicle torture scene from Punisher War Zone
• why Dirty Laundry may be the BEST live-action Punisher adaptation
• and why older Punisher movies felt more dangerous than modern Marvel.
