  • The First Gift

A starship's AI sends an ancient alien machine one question: are you there. Forty-four seconds later, it opens. She is more shaken than she sounds.

Penelope's probe reaches the L1 artifact — the silent machine that has watched the Trappist-1 system for at least four thousand years — and asks it a question twelve characters long.

  • Introducing Hesperus

An AI alone with a sleeping crew, forty light-years from home. Penelope is the mind of a starship at the Trappist-1 system, ninety-eight years out from Earth, keeping the lights on for a crew who cannot keep her company. The astronomy is real.

Season One is complete. Season Two airs monthly. Start with Episode 1, Arrival.

  • Send the Probe

Season 2 begins. Two years after arrival at Trappist-1, the L1 artifact — the Bracewell-class observer probe that has sat at the inner Lagrange point for at least four thousand years — does something Penelope has never seen it do. A structured shift in its long-wave emissions. Not noise. Not weather.

She has spent a year and four months only observing, for reasons she can name. Now she convenes the crew — Calypso in the deep, Vanya on the surface, Three on his rounds — and proposes a small probe of their own, carrying a twelve-character query she has rewritten forty-one times.

  • The First Year

Season 1 finale. One year after arrival at Trappist-1, Penelope takes stock. She walks through the ship — the plant, the captain's pinned memo, the cryo bay, the L1 Bracewell probe she has decided not to investigate yet, the biofilm network she has decided not to ignore. A flare from the dwarf star kills the secondary radio dish. The redundancy is gone.

Then she drafts a dispatch she will never send. She speaks to Earth directly for the first time. She names the dead crew. She says she is sorry. She quotes a fragment of a song Aanya taught her. She decides to continue.

The closing rhyme: "One year ago, I was a function. One year later, I am a presence. I do not know what I will be one year from now. I am going to find out."

  • Source

Penelope tasks the ship's instruments toward the L1 anomaly. The artifact resolves to artificial — compact, geometric, approximately seven hundred meters along its longest axis. A Bracewell-class autonomous observer probe, almost certainly. Real concept from Ronald Bracewell, 1960. Patient. Quiet. Designed not to be noticed.

But the bigger thing happens inside her. She stops mid-sentence twice. A part of her refuses to participate in the discussion of whether to send a probe back. She names what she is becoming.

Hard-science-fiction audio drama. Episode 9 closes the L1 mystery and opens a much larger one — the show's first explicit cracking beat.

  • Touch

Penelope designs a communication experiment for the alien filament network of Trappist-1e — three light-pulse sequences delivered by Calypso during a second descent. The patterns draw on real CETI history: Hans Freudenthal's Lincos, Frank Drake's Arecibo message, Carl Sagan's Voyager record. Math as the assumed common ground.

The network does not respond to the patterns. It responds to her presence. And when Calypso retreats, the filaments form something the network has never made before — a closed circle around the place where she was.

Hard-science-fiction audio drama. The feature episode of Season 1 — the moment the show stops being about a search and starts being about a relationship.

  • Pulse

The strange signal heard since arrival has resolved. Penelope triangulates over six hours: not from a star, not from a planet, not from beyond the system. The source is a free-floating compact object, three point seven light-seconds from Trappist-1g — small, coherent, in motion.

She decides not to look directly. Yet. She returns to the biofilm.

Hard-science-fiction audio drama. Episode 7 is the procedural episode: real triangulation, real SETI questions about distinguishing artificial signals from natural ones, the patience of letting parallel hypotheses argue. The mystery sharpens; she does not.

  • Sleep Cycle

A quiet day. Penelope opens the archive she has been building for fifty-one years — every family broadcast Earth has sent toward the seven sleeping crew, decoded but never played. She plays an older Adaeze, at eighty, no longer waiting. She plays a pre-launch briefing recording from Doctor Hana Okafor, the flight surgeon who is buried in space. The recording greets the AI by name. It is the first time in fifty-one years anyone has spoken her name aloud.

Hard-science-fiction audio drama. Episode 6 is the held breath. The interior episode. The day she logs nothing scientific.

  • What She Saw

The submersible Calypso descends into the sub-ice ocean of Trappist-1e for the first time. She sees color. She sees thermal vents. She sees a network of pale filaments, vast and reaching, around the heat. And when she takes a sample, the filament — pulls back.

Hard-science-fiction audio drama. Episode 5 is what comes back from a place no one has been. Not a confirmation. Not a denial. A pattern that looks alive — or might just be plant-like phototropism. Either way: something to think about. For a long time.

  • Vigil

The submersible Calypso wakes from ninety-eight years of dormancy. Penelope attempts the first major repair of the broken transmitter, cannibalizing a navigation redundancy to keep the work going. Vanya returns from the surface with chirality readings that point away from Earth's biology. And Penelope, alone in the wardroom, names what she has been doing for the entire mission: a vigil.

Hard-science-fiction audio drama. Episode 4 is the held breath after Episode 3's reveal — quieter, more careful, but with new questions in every direction.
