"When I first stepped away from the game I love, I struggled heavily with depression. I had never fully developed a clear vision for my life after football. I knew I wanted to get a “good job,” make “a ton of money” and be “successful,” but I felt lost and overwhelmed having no idea what I wanted to do with my life."
"It’s become my personal mission and passion to reach out and help others overcome the fear, frustration, and uncertainty associated with life post-athletics."

Interview with Dennis Mellen

From an early age Dennis  knew what he wanted to do when he grew up. A USAF Academy graduate (1975), is a retired Air Force pilot after serving as a lieutenant colonel and chief pilot for 20 years until his retirement from the Air Force Reserves in 1996. He simultaneously worked as an instructor pilot and fleet captain at Alaska Airlines where he was the head of training over 550 pilots and 40 instructors. But after retiring in 2012 from his 28-year flying career due to a heart attack, Dennis found himself looking for something else to do with his life.
Dennis is a business leader, motivator, mental performance mentor and passionate athletic coach.  Enthusiastic leadership and followership are his trademarks. He brings a high level of energy and passion to every group he engages. Weaving personal anecdotes and experiences with specific calls to action are key elements in his presentations.

Interview with Leslie Tujillo

From Los Angeles, California, Leslie joins her two passions, learning and sports, to help students and athletes grow and become better versions of themselves.
 She played Division I tennis at UNM.
Leslie “Coach C” Trujillo, M.A., is an Athletic Performance and Mindset Coach, developing Champions in all areas of their life.  She hosts an online training studio called "Respect the Reps" where she helps fuel people's bodies and minds for life!
She has her B.S. in Exercise Science from UNM, M.A. in Education from LMU, M.A. in Kinesiology: Sports Management from CSULB, and her Certificate in Sport Psychology from SDUIS.  Leslie is a Master Trainer with ZHealth Performance, specializing in movement, the nervous system, and vision training. She was awarded the Todd Durkin Fitness Professional of the Year Award in 2019.
Leslie is the host of The Developing Athlete Podcast and the co-author of the book, DEAR HER: Letters to teenage girls and young ladies on lessons learned through education, athletics, and life.

Interview with Rennie Curren

Born in Atlanta, GA and the son of Liberian immigrants, Curran has a diverse background with humble beginnings. He began his football career at Brookwood High School in Snellville, GA becoming the all-time leading tackler in Gwinnett County history. He was initially considered undersized according to various critics but quickly silenced the doubters by exploding onto the field as a true freshman at the University of Georgia.
His experiences of overcoming many circumstances to reach his childhood dream of becoming a 3-time All American, Butkus Award Finalist, permanent team Captain, a 3rd round draft pick in the 2010 NFL Draft (Tennessee Titans) and transitioning into becoming a successful entrepreneur has given him a unique perspective on what it takes to handle adversity and maximize opportunities while having a positive impact on others

Interview with Lisa C Willis

From California, Lisa Willis was a basketball superstar. Playing against adults and men she honed in on her skills which helped her become a highly sought after college recruit. She picked UCLA where she continued her spectacular rise. Winning numerous achievements as well as a member of the team representing the USA at the 2005 World University Games Team in Izmir, Turkey, Lisa set her sights on the pros.
She entered the WNBA in 2006 as the fifth overall  draft pick to the Los Angeles Sparks immediately following her college career. 
After her 5 years in the pros, Lisa retired and began a coaching career where Lisa made history as first female coach for New York Knicks' franchise.
Now not only does Lisa work for Nike but she started her own business coaching career as well as speaking around the world and is also an author.
Lisa lets nothing stop her. She's a sponge for knowledge and she takes her failures and her successes to catapult her forwards.

Interview with Malcolm Lemmons

From Washington DC, Malcolm was a basketball standout. Being lucky enough to play at Gonzaga High School, he was recruited to play  at D1 Niagara University. Battling ups and downs for 3 years he decided to transfer out and go to an NAIA school in California.
He had an awesome experience there and was able to play professionally in Japan. There, Malcolm had a lot of time to think about his future and to understand that he had no idea about what his future was going to be like.
With no wifi, he decide to write and with all his writing  he was able to put together his first book, Lessons From the Game
As his professional basketball career ended he found that he was not the only athlete dealing with these fears and uncertainties. This is where Athletes Unheard started.

Athletes Unheard is a company that’s on a mission to elevate and improve the mental wellness of athletes worldwide. For years, the topic of mental health and wellness has been dismissed and understated in the athletic community.

Interview With Colleen Healy

What would you do to find out if you are good enough? This is the question Colleen Healy asked herself when she quit school and gave up a full ride at the University of New Haven to pursue a dream of playing basketball at UConn.
Her story was featured in Jim Roddy's book "The Walk-On Method" where she spoke about her journey from an amazing high school player to full ride to becoming a manager at UConn. She had no guarantees but she had a dream.
Through this journey she found life and business lessons that has helped her even now as the Co-Owner of ORCA Leadership and Director of Cardiovascular Strategy, Thought Leader Liaison, and Diversity & Inclusion Ambassador at Cytokinetics.
Her story is one of struggle and determination and could be a textbook on business strategies learned not from a classroom but from life and the basketball court.

Interview with Larry Long Jr.

I AM SOMEBODY! Larry's mother would make him repeat this everyday, and if you know Larry, he lives this everyday.
Because of he's fathers work, Larry moved around a lot but his parents instilled many valuable lessons, like determination, belief in self and hard work.
In high school he was recruited to play baseball at the University of Maryland. Senior year he was named captain. After not making the pros, Larry tried opening up his own business. After a year he shut the doors, but Larry knows that to get the hits you also strike out. He went into IT work and moved to a couple of companies and is now the Director of Collegiate Sales at Teamworks.
Larry also has a YouTube channel and has a live show "The Midweek Midday Motivational Minute."
Larry lives life to the fullest and encourages others to do the same.  He motivates, leads, and encourages in his position, in his life and in his volunteer work as a board member of Helius.
