New Year's Resolutions! What a slippery slope! For some of us, it's how we're wired. We have to have goals. We have to have something that we are always working toward. And some of us are even really good at setting reasonable, attainable goals. But let's be honest... its the end of February, beginning of March, and most of us have already fallen short of meeting our resolutions! And we are beating ourselves up every day! Because when we open up Facebook we see that someone else has stuck with that diet and has lost 25 lbs! Or that someone else has stuck to the commitment of eating dinner as a family and it has been so amazing! It never fails, when we think that we are in a moment of failure, satan finds a way to throw some salt on the wound! And it's just a downward spiral from there... year after year... resolution after resolution... we never succeed.
But here's the kicker... entirely too often we take our "spiritual" goals and compare them to our new years resolutions. We say that we will read through the bible this year, we say that we will take 30 minutes every morning when we wake up for devotions, we say that we will make it to church twice a month instead of once, and inevitably by spring we have already fallen short of those goals and we end up in this slump of "well I will never be good enough" or "well I guess I'm just not a good enough christian."
