They were all retroactively removed from continuity EXCEPT X-Men #225 which was itself part of a ret-con! Oh, and they were published in 1987. Which is why Andrew and Micheal are talking about them.

Donning their life preservers, Andrew and Micheal stop by 1985 to discuss why the name ‘Brad’ is so maligned and other topics including Superman #414, Batman #386, Amazing Spider-Man #263 and Uncanny X-Men #200. It’s the 199th episode and to celebrate Micheal and Andrew do what they always do – talk about comics. Tangentially still hanging around the 90’s, they read the 4 part Marvel Vs DC crossover and argue a lot over the battles within. Tangential questions of how former Hercules actor Kevin Sorbo ended up on an island of cannibals aside, Micheal & Andrew take a trip to the seedier side of espionage. Meet VELVET TEMPLETON, she used to be a spy. Yes, one of Image Comics finest new books is poured over, largely because Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting have made it lovely to look at. It’s the fifth and final look at comics published in the 90’s with a round up of some IMAGE launch books. Are YOUNGBLOOD #1, WILDCATS #1 and SPAWN #1 much better efforts than what McFarlane, Lee and Liefeld were doing at Marvel? Do they use their creative freedom to expand the comic book medium and challenge the boundaries? Well, you’ll have to listen to find out but afterwards Mike and Andrew look at their favourite comics of the 90’s to prove it wasn’t all bad.

Acting as a counterpoint to the big guns and big boobs comics of IMAGE, DC launches VERTIGO, for Mature Readers. As far away from Mature as you can get, Andrew and Micheal giggle through the depraved acts of PREACHER:BLOOD & WHISKEY, muse philosophically over the beard stroking antics of A Thousand Cats in SANDMAN #18 and then smile uncomfortably at the black as coal antics of THE EATERS. Beware, though. Some Vertigo concepts may to too hot for the little ones.

Choking to death is the least of Andrew & Micheal’s problems today as the 90’s celebration looks at sartorial style. Spider-Man switches out his natty threads for an Iron Man inspired makeover in WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #100, Superman cosplays as Brian Boitano in SUPERMAN #123, and Sue Richards decides to take the idea of being Marvel’s resident hottie to the extreme in Fantastic Four #375. It’s all about the legacy this week, as Mike and Andrew pull deep from the well of 1990’s comics to reveal an insidious plot to replace all our heroes with younger, more relatable, more marketable heroes. Kyle Raynor replaces Hal Jordan in Green Lantern #51, Bart Allen arrive from the future in Flash #92 and the Fantastic Four are usurped by people Art Adams likes to draw in FF #348. Do these relics of the 90210 era hold up? Or are they as irrelevant as the New Kids?

Given that Micheal Bailey was doing nothing with it, we decided to steal his idea – hurrumph, pay homage, by devoting a number of weeks to that most maligned of decades – the 1990’s. Kicking off with three of the most successful comics ever published, the Million Selling Spider-Man #1 by Todd McFarlane, X-Force #1 by Rob Liefeld and X-Men #1 by Jim Lee. Hateful bygones of an era best forgotten? Or not that bad, really?
