This is the 7th episode where I discuss the importance of free speech in regards to science. Scientists need a space to freely scrutinize and discuss studies, perspectives, methods, products, and processes in order for science to be effective. Lives are often at stake and science requires questioning in order to be effective and self correct.

In this episode, I discuss the 20 cognitive biases, the rise of the anitvaxxer movement (pushed by media), how the media and individuals fall prey to these cognitive biases, and how we all need to keep our biases in check. We all have biases, this doesn’t make us bad people. If we ignore our biases, it becomes an issue not only to individuals but also the media’s representation of science and fact.

In this episode, I discuss the inherent dangers of science deniers, why they think this way, as well as the moral and ethical implications of consistently denying things that put others at risk. I ask tough questions wondering where the line falls to personal accountability of those in power who put Americans in harm’s way by denying science.
