Wouldn’t keto be better? Hi Jimmy and Dr. Will, I've been binge listening to your show since October and have finally caught up. I love learning about all of the new things that Dr. Will talks about. Last week, my daughter fell at school and bumped her head. Her pediatrician said that she had a mild concussion. She sent me home with the protocol below to follow. I thought it was interesting that they advised us to feed my daughter lots of carbohydrates. I would think that keto would help decrease the inflammation and improve her brain function from this traumatic injury. What are your thoughts on this protocol? BTW, my daughter is doing okay now. Is it possible to feed my healthy microbiome with only 10g vegetable carbs per day? Hey guys, I have questions about how to best maintain my healthy microbiome while on the keto diet. I have researched this topic extensively and keep doing the math. My hunger is minimized and blood sugar is better controlled by counting TOTAL carbohydrates aiming for around 20g daily, including my vegetable intake. I never get more than 10g vegetable carbs per day. Is this enough for me to feed my good gut flora? I take probiotics and have heard that without fiber the bad bacteria grow and will even start snacking on the stomach lining. Any thoughts? Thanks! Pat 2. Why did my Keratosis pilaris condition (with skin flare-ups and spreading across my body) become worse when I became keto-adapted? Hi Jimmy and Dr. Cole, As a T1 diabetic for three decades, I’m constantly working on ways to control this disease. Keto has been a tremendous help over the past three months of being strict with it. I recently noticed a big flare up of my Keratosis pilaris (KP) and it’s spread to my thighs and calves when it has remained mostly on my arms since I was diagnosed. A clean diet is supposed to help improve KP, but this seems to have gotten worse than ever before. Is this because of my autoimmune disease or could it somehow be related to keto? I’ve tried dry brushing, oil pulling, and more, but nothing is helping. Can you help me figure this out? Thanks for your great podcast! Leigh NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship 3. Will taking ascorbic acid as a supplement to my keto diet to help manage my Lyme disease actually block my ability to make ketones? Hi Jimmy and Dr. Cole, I recently embarked on keto and have reached a state of nutritional ketosis. I would like to add in megadoses of non-GMO ascorbic acid as a supplement to my keto diet since it helps me with the symptoms of chronic Lyme disease. However, in my research about this, I’ve learned that ascorbic acid is biochemically similar in nature to glucose and the body treats it as such. Will taking this interfere with my desire to produce ketones? Kind regards, Elisa KETO TALK MAILBOX – Would the increase in blood ketones and decrease in blood sugar levels after switching to a mostly plant-based keto approach be from the microbiome changes? Hi Jimmy, I want to share this with you because I find really interesting what happen with my numbers after doing a ketogenic diet with lots of vegetables and only eggs as my fat and protein source. I was surprised to find that my blood ketones went up considerably around 2.0 mmol/L in the morning with blood sugar levels in the low 70’s eating this way. Previously on my ketogenic diet, I’d see closer to 0.5 blood ketones and blood glucose levels in the 90’s. Do you think this very positive change in my numbers is a direct result of embracing a mostly plant-based ketogenic approach that fed into changing my microbiome for the better? I really admire the work you guys are doing and keep it up!
