Two undefeated Ohio area boys’ basketball teams are making a strong impact this winter.
Mount Healthy (Division I) and Wyoming (Division II) are 13-0 entering this weekend. Mount Healthy is 13-0 for the first time since the 1979-80 season while Wyoming is 13-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
Mount Healthy coach Adair Carmichael and Wyoming coach Matt Rooks joined the WCPO High School Insider to discuss their respective teams and their top players.

Elder High School hosted its 44th annual sports stag Tuesday night with Reds broadcaster Jeff Brantley as the featured speaker.
The WCPO High School Insider caught up with Brantley along multiple Elder head coaches to discuss their respective programs including insight about the football, basketball, bowling and wrestling teams this school year.
Brantley discussed the Reds' offseason, his playing at Mississippi State and being a high school multi-sport athlete in Alabama.
"I think you look at a lot of the schools in this area there is great history," Brantley said. "It's really amazing to get connected to that."

Hughes High School boys basketball coach Bryan Wyant and St. Xavier coach Mike Noszka discussed their successful seasons the first week of January with a look ahead to the second Midwest King Classic Jan. 18-19 at Middletown High School.
St. X (8-2), winners of eight consecutive games, plays host to Elder (6-3) Friday night. Hughes (7-3) plays host to Aiken (9-1) Friday night.
The Midwest King Classic is scheduled to have 12 games Jan. 18-19. St. X is scheduled to play at Sycamore at 4:45 p.m. Jan. 18 while Hughes plays Moeller at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 19.

The College Football Playoff National Championship Monday night in New Orleans will feature two area high school products aiming for their second straight title for Clemson Monday night.
Clemson sophomore offensive tackle Jackson Carman (Fairfield) and redshirt sophomore guard Matt Bockhorst (St. Xavier) will be in the spotlight as Clemson (14-0) plays LSU (14-0) at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Fairfield coach Jason Krause joined the WCPO High School Insider to discuss Carman’s growth on and off the field and the anticipation of Monday night's matchup. Krause is leaving Saturday night to attend the game in person with family and friends at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Krause discussed Carman’s All-American journey from Fairfield to Clemson including the time he played on a guitar in Clemson coach Dabo Swinney’s office during a recruiting visit. He also described the rapport between Carman and Bockhorst.
Krause has stayed in touch with Carman via FaceTime throughout the season. He explains why Carman has become a student of the game and an example for current high school players at Fairfield.

Mount Notre Dame coach Dr. Scott Rogers discussed the undefeated and nationally-ranked Cougars (8-0) while Lakota East boys basketball coach Clint Adkins explained why the 5-0 Thunderhawks have been so successful defensively this month.
Triple Double Prospects analyst Corey Albertson offered his insight into the area boys basketball scene and the top teams and players to watch entering January.

The La Salle High School football program captured its fourth state title last week as the Lancers defeated Massillon 34-17 in the Division II state final in Canton.
La Salle coach Pat McLaughlin along with senior running back/linebacker Cam Porter, senior lineman Ben Blevins and senior defensive back Cole Hildebrand discussed the Lancers' championship journey Tuesday afternoon with WCPO's Mike Dyer
La Salle (13-2) had quite a memorable season. The Lancers won the state title and also captured the Greater Catholic League South division outright for the second time in program history. La Salle became the 18th school in the Ohio High School Athletic Association to win at least four state football titles (20019, 2016, 2015, 2014).

The Ohio Mr. Football award has finally returned to Greater Cincinnati.
Wyoming senior quarterback Evan Prater was named Wednesday afternoon as the 33rd Ohio Mr. Football.
Prater, who is verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati, is the first Ohio Mr. Football from the Cincinnati area since Norwood’s Marc Edwards won the prestigious award in 1992. Prater is the second area player to win the annual award since it began in 1987.
Prater, Wyoming coach Aaron Hancock and Edwards joined the WCPO High School Insider to discuss the significance of the award and share some football memories.

In Kentucky, Covington Catholic plays Frederick Douglass in the 5A state final Saturday night in Lexington.
In Ohio, La Salle plays Massillon Thursday night in the Division II state final at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton while Elder plays Pickerington Central in the Division I state final Friday night.
Ohio High School Athletic Association Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass joined the podcast to discuss the state finals venue in Canton and what the future may hold for a long-term location for the championship games.

The Cincinnati Country Day girls soccer program has earned quite the legacy over the past seasons.
Cincinnati Country Day won its second straight Division III state title when it defeated Findlay Liberty-Benton 5-1 Nov. 9 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus.
Cincinnati Country Day completed its memorable season with a 21-0-2 record. The team had a two-year record of 40-2-2.
The senior class went to the state finals for three years and had a record of 71-6-5.
"They were led by eight seniors who demonstrated that all team goals are bigger than individual goals along with having a (grade-point average) of 3.8 and playing multiple sports," Hirschauer said.
Cincinnati Country Day coach Theresa Hirschauer discussed the success of the program with the WCPO High School Insider this week. She was joined by Joely Virzi, Lawson Renie and Alex Vredeveld.
