Equally, his journey in martial arts as a brown belt and BJJ instructor at Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu reflects his belief that leadership requires both mental resiliency and physical discipline. Off the mats and beyond the podium, he is deeply committed to his family as a devoted husband and father, living out the principles he teaches in his home. His story reminds us that leadership is not confined to titles or positions, it’s a way of life, carried into every arena where people are watching, learning, and being inspired.

She is the Founder and CEO of LEAD Filipino, a national nonprofit organization advancing civic education, cultural organizing, and health equity across California, Texas, and Nevada. With a background spanning local government, community organizing, and legislative advocacy, Dr. Cortez has led statewide racial equity initiatives, championed voter engagement efforts, and built powerful cross-sector coalitions.

A nationally recognized voice, Dr. Cortez has spoken at the White House, partnered with Fortune 500 companies, and delivered keynote addresses at universities across the country. She’s been honored as a Silicon Valley 40 Under 40 leader, a Woman of Influence, and most recently received the 2024 Larry Itliong Legacy Award from the Pilipino American Los Angeles Democrats. Her work with LEAD Filipino has been featured in both national publications and academic texts.

Dr. Cortez holds degrees from San Jose State University, the University of San Francisco, and the University of Southern California, and continues to be a powerful force in the movement to uplift, organize, and inspire marginalized communities nationwide.
