Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Wyoming Weather Podcast — it's Thursday, February 26th.
That west wind slapping you awake right now? It's just warming up. We're sitting at 42 degrees under clear skies, but those gusts are about to put on a show.
High Wind Warnings are posted across the Absaroka Mountains and Cody Foothills through Friday evening. We're talking gusts to 75 miles an hour. That's the kind of wind that turns your SUV into a sail. If you're towing a trailer or driving something tall, seriously reconsider your route today.
Down in Southeast Wyoming, you'll climb to 54 degrees with gusts near 55. Feels like 29 around 7 A.M. before the sun does its thing. Tonight drops to 38, then Friday jumps to 58.
Central Wyoming starts at 32 right now. You're hitting 53 this afternoon with gusts to 36 miles an hour. Low tonight is 36. And Friday brings 58 degrees.
Western Wyoming is the cool pocket. You're at 25 under mostly cloudy skies. Highs only reach 38 today, dropping to 20 tonight.
Here's the real danger: humidity crashes to 15 to 20 percent with these screaming winds. Red Flag Warnings are up through Friday evening. One spark and we've got a wildfire running.
The week ahead stays warm. Saturday could hit 61 degrees in the southeast — nearly 15 degrees above normal for late February. Rain and snow showers return Sunday, mainly west of the Divide.
We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. Sunrise is at 6:39. Spring equinox is just three weeks out.
Secure anything outside that might want to fly away today.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
