High Wind Watch | Wyoming Weather

Listen Later

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Wyoming Weather Podcast — it's Monday, February 23rd.
Folks, enjoy the calm while you can.. Because by tonight, Wyoming splits into two very different worlds.
Right now you're at 26 degrees under clear skies. We've got nearly 11 hours of daylight today — sunrise at 6:44 A.M., sunset at 5:44 P.M. But here's the thing. Two massive weather systems are about to collide with our state. And where you live determines which one hits you.
Southeast Wyoming, you're getting slammed by wind. A high wind warning kicks in at 5 P.M. Today — gusts to 75 miles an hour. That's hurricane force. Cheyenne hits 57 degrees by 3 P.M., but with 17 mile an hour winds gusting to 30, it feels like 16 at 7 A.M. Tonight drops to 34, but winds stay fierce at 15 to 20, gusting to 35. Tuesday? Same 57 degree high, but now you've got 25 to 35 mile an hour winds gusting to 55. This isn't a breeze, folks. This is a shove.
Central Wyoming, you're in the middle. Casper sees 52 degrees by 2 P.M. Today with 20 mile an hour winds gusting to 38. Tonight falls to 40 with gusts to 43. Tuesday brings 54 degrees and thickening clouds — rain showers possible after 5 A.M. Wednesday.
Western Wyoming, you're getting buried. Jackson Hole starts at 45 degrees today, but snow showers kick in at 10 P.M. — 1 to 3 inches overnight. Tuesday? Snow all day. Another 1 to 3 inches with a high of 39. The Tetons and Absarokas? A winter storm warning starts 5 A.M. Tuesday. Teton Pass could see 18 to 24 inches by Wednesday. Wednesday turns to rain and snow mix with winds gusting to 40 — blowing snow makes travel brutal.
Here's your week ahead. Tuesday through Wednesday is the main event — heavy snow in the west, dangerous winds in the southeast. Thursday gives you a break with sunny 50s. Then Friday through Sunday? More wind. Another system Saturday brings slight snow chances north, but relentless 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts statewide.
If you're in the southeast, secure loose items now. Western Wyoming, get your snow tires ready.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
