  • jordan wagge & the oreo
Episode 51 is with Dr. Jordan Wagge, Associate Professor of Psychology at Avila University. To be clear, she's not the kind of psychologist who helps people, even though she likes to help people. Jordan, along with her students, runs the Cognition Lab at Avila, studying food and eating behaviors. We discuss her method of research, relying mostly on the internet. We also talk about traveling through space, setting your GPS to a voice with an accent, and what happens when you're a young professional.

  • lisa catto & sixty hour minutes
We hit the big 5-0 with Lisa Catto, Director of Social Media and Media Relations at Western Oregon University. Because she's in Oregon and Lougan loves it, we talk about Portland...a lot. That includes public transit, ramen noodles, and the fact that it really is awesome despite what Portlandians say about it. With the new year starting, all of us are thinking about upcoming conferences, and we discuss why they're awesome, how to be a newbie, and other great benefits. We close the show talking about social media groups, from faculty to students!

Episode 49 is with Jim Sargent, Assistant Director of Admissions and Coordinator of Transfer Admissions at Trinity College. Although his role is fairly new, Jim is not new to Trinity, previously working in Communications. We chat about transfer students and their needs, as well as resources on urban and suburban campuses. We tangent about Pokemon, cats, Star Wars, and rom coms, but get back on track when Jim explains Trinity's new announcement; becoming test-optional.

  • patrick jervis-stone & the drop from the top method
Episode 48 is the first of 2016 with Patrick Jervis-Stone, Social Media and Brand Manager at East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). EVIT students are at their high school for half of the day, while spending the other half learning career and technical skills that they can take with them as they transition into college or the workforce and beyond. We chat about cats, how we got in our jobs (of course, not because we thought we would), and about the importance of teaching ourselves new skills using the internet. Jackie wraps the show with a crazy new idea for ESPNM, ESPN Mascot.

  • brady griffith & don’t worry, lougan cut out the spoiler
Episode 47 welcomes recent graduate Brady Griffith, Life Coach at Maryville University. Naturally, we talk about Star Wars because Lougan had seen the new release since our last episode...more than once. Don't worry, listeners, we cut out the spoilers. We determine that Lougan is in fact not a Star Wars uberfan, but does own a $600 lightsaber. We finally get around to asking Brady what a Life Coach really is, and he explained the relatively new concept in Higher Education and at Maryville. As a Maryville alumnus, Brady describes his transition from student to Life Coach, and how it benefits his new position. We're excited to bring Brady back on the show to hear how the program has evolved!

  • wimer alberto & s02e01
Episode 46 is the first episode of season 2! We celebrate with Wimer Alberto, currently serving as the Senior Coordinator of Occupancy Management and Housing Operations at Arizona State University, but will soon be transitioning to Assistant Director for Guest and Conference Services. Because of his new role, we talk about the impact of conferences and other resources on campus, which universities are now beginning to take advantage of. With the recent Star Wars movie release, Lougan nerds out (a lot) especially because Jackie has finally seen a Star Wars movie! We close the show by talking about how our own studies shaped the way we view ourselves on our campuses, as well as Wimer's post-graduate dreams.

  • brian proffer & the commercial break
Episode 45  is with Brian Proffer, Assistant Manager for University Activities Board at Michigan State University. We start by chatting about the thing that's most important in life - binge-watching television shows on Netflix. Brian is watching, and tweeting about his journey through the Friends series. At MSU, Brian works with students to fundraise for a programming budget; a unique challenge considering no student fees are allocated to campus programming. Brian shares the successful events on campus that act as fundraisers, and some just for fun! We give a shoutout (a few of them) to Alaina Wiens, reminding us how small the field of higher education really is. We wrap the show with a discussion about something else that's really important to life: bacon, breakfast and...Amazon Prime Now.

  • jake dolan & the animated gif
Episode 44 welcomes Jake Dolan, Director of Web and Digital Communications at Montana State University. We chat about different conferences we've attended and plan to attend, even if some of them are outside the scope of higher education, inspiring a discussion on the importance of understanding our jobs without necessarily looking at them through the lens of a college or university. We talk about the evolution of the web, and how each of us experienced its growth in our own way, plus some juicy gossip about Lougan's first ever website. Jake closes the show by explaining how the web is maintained at Montana State; and it's not only one person's responsibility.

  • emily stulz & the wild, wild web
Episode 43 started with some technical difficulties, but we finally connected with Emily Stulz, a graduate assistant in the marketing and communications office at Northern Michigan University, earning a master's degree in higher education and student affairs. We chatted about working with student interns, especially when it comes to social media platforms, and Emily shared some great ideas she and her student worker came up with for using Snapchat on campus! We also talked about the internet; meeting people, making friends, and of course, animals. We ended the show with Emily's new initiative on campus to create a resource for first generation students on campus, which was also featured in the Student Affairs Collective blog.
