Bible passage: Luke 4 v 31 - 44. Lord Acton famously wrote in 1887: “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” But Luke shows us a great man who was also a good man, who used his power and authority not to harm others but to help them: Jesus of Nazareth, the Holy One of God, the Son of God, the Messiah, who came with words of grace to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God!

Jesus the Son of God and Son of Adam won a victory over the devil in the wilderness, so that we the sons and daughters of the first Adam might share in the spoils of victory of the Second and Last Adam, the man Jesus Christ. But how does Jesus' victory for us work itself out in us and through us in our own fight against temptation?
