Growing into full discipleship.

Before a Methodist pastor is ordained, she or he is asked the questions: "Are you going on to perfection?" and "Do you expect to be made perfect in this lifetime?"

This morning, we will explore this peculiar quirk of the Methodist tradition and discover together how it can inform our discipleship.

The early Methodist movement was built around a desire to 'reform the nation and spread scriptural holiness throughout the land.' As their name suggests, they had a method to accomplish their mission. This morning we will engage in conversation to explore how to live out the story of God in the 21st century by using the method of our predecessors.

Christmas is the ultimate celebration of the Word of God lived out in the world.  Frequently we are tempted to think that God stopped doing this after Jesus ascended into heaven.  If, however, we are a Christmas people, then we must find ways to re-enact the Word of God in the world with more than just Christmas pageants.  By exploring Shakespeare, shells, and personal stories, we'll find ways to follow in God's footsteps.

Stories seem to really matter to Christians. We teach Bible stories to our children. We recite the same Christmas story year after year after year. Why? 

We explore a story from Exodus in a completely new way to see if we can embrace the value of story in guiding our experience of Advent and the way we live our lives.
