An embattled charter school for adults based in Sacramento could soon face closure following a devastating state audit released in June. It found ‘Highlands Community Charter and Technical School’ received more than 180 million dollars in K-12 funds that it was not eligible to collect and must now repay. Now the school finds itself at risk of losing its charter with the Twin Rivers Unified school board expected to vote on its future in January. For years, California officials have been building a modern 911 system to replace outdated infrastructure dating back to the 1970s. But after significant delays the unique regional system was finally switched on last year, and didn’t work. Now the state is scrapping the design and going back to the drawing board, but stakeholders are concerned about transparency and increasing costs.
