God promises one day to establish a world in which we hurt one another no longer, but in the meantime, we are invited to join with rather than fight against the justice that God seeks."

If they are willing to walk justly with God, God will cleanse them of the blood that is upon them, but if not, God will give them the freedom from God they desire, and thus, abandon them to their enemies. The choice is theirs, and ours!"

He doesn't want to see a sign or symbol or some intermediary. No, Moses wants to experience God's presence directly. Moses longed for something that was made fully possible only centuries later when God took on flesh and became one of us."

No matter how wonderful, the place loses its luster if you can't be with those who matter most to you. Moses is happy that God has restored the promise of a future home but not if God will not go with them. More than anything, Moses has learned that what matters most is "God with us."

When Moses asked "Who is on the Lord's side?," few recognized the life-and-death importance of that question."

Moses pleads with God to not give up on Israel. What a reversal of roles! Moses is usually the one who threatens to abandon Israel out of anger and frustration. What is going on? Is God truly ready to destroy Israel, or is God demonstrating the first-ever use of "reverse psychology"?"
