Nations, nationalism, and Christian nationalism

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations" (Matt. 28:19). "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you..." (Gen. 12:2). Nations are a key concept throughout the Bible. Nations represent a middle ground between tribalism on one side, and empire, on the other. Given this, why is there so much negativity today towards the concept of nations, and particularly the concept of “nationalism,” or “Christian nationalism” today?
