Woody Ellis comes on the show to discuss his long walk to help raise awareness and funds for mental health issues. Woody kicked off his walk by crossing the iconic span of the Mackinaw Bridge this Labor Day.
His route will be mostly dictated by those he will meet and by supporters who host him along the way.
In this episode we chat about the goals and how he plans to achieve them, his gear (including a walking trailer!) and inspiration.

Shambrekia Wise shares the origin story of how she co-created Sightseeing with Sandy with her daughter.
After receiving a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, Shambrekia made a decision to live life more intentionally and to create lasting memories with her daughter, Sandy.
Sandy observed that she didn’t see a lot of kids that looked like her when they traveled. She asked her mom to find a solution to it. This conversation was one of the factors that led to creating Sightseeing with Sandy. “The book series, ”Sightseeing with Sandy”, creates a telescope to the world so children don’t ever have to leave home to explore it.”

Rue McKenrick shares his most recent updates for the American Perimeter Trail Conservancy. He has also put out a new book that features the first part of his scouting route of what is now the American Perimeter Trail.
Hike first had Rue come on in March 2020, just days after much of the United States had shut down and when into social distancing mode during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many things have changed since our first chat, but Rue's passion for the trail and conservation has not changed.

Sally Chaffin Brooks is a comedian and podcaster who also authored an upcoming memoir, "Going to Maine".
In this episode, Hike chats with Sally about going back in time to 2003 when she thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail and her process of writing the book. Hike got a pre-release copy of the book and highly recommends you check it out. It's due out in September, but you can pre-order now.
We don't dive too deep into the specifics of her hike, but you can find all of those when you buy the book. However, we absolutely touch on the magic of legendary trail angel, Miss Janet.

Healing begins with a conversation.
There are number of things that divide people in this country.
The outdoors connect people in ways that things like politics have not been able to do." (bootsonthetrail.com)

Zach and Corin share their Fall 2023 hike on the Foothills Trail. We chat about their 5 days on trail and touch on food carry, water, campsites, wildlife on trail and so much more.
Both Zach and Corin have previously been on Hike to share their individual hiking stories and adventures, so I'm excited to be able to have them on together for the first time. They talk candidly about what it's like to hike as a couple and how it's brought them closer together.
Zach is currently finishing out his yearlong DayLoeb (hike the Art Loeb in a day once a month for 13 months) leading into his 40th birthday. Corin is planning for an upcoming 2024 trip to Yellowstone while Zach will look at doing his own hike of the Bartram Trail.
