On Thomas Sunday, Bp. Irineos turns to the Epistle appointed for this day and comments upon the miraculous works and consequent sufferings of the Apostles in their time after Pentecost. Drawing upon their experiences of both sadness and joy, Bp. Irineos reminds the faithful that our sufferings here a subject to time, and the joy of the eternal kingdom is what truly awaits us!

The triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem was quickly turned to sorrow by his arrest, trial and crucifixion. Those who sorrowed at the loss of their earthly king were unaware of the great heavenly victory he was winning for our salvation. As we journey toward Pascha, let us not be weighed down by the mundane circumstances of the world, but let us keep our eyes transfixed on the heavenly things promised to us.

On Lazarus Saturday we remember Christ's raising of Lazarus, four days dead in the tomb. By exercising his dominion over dead, in Lazarus Christ gives us the assurance of our own resurrection to come. While we may weep over the separation of our loved ones who have fallen asleep, we now know this is but a temporary state as we await our resurrection to eternal life.

On the 5th Sunday of Great Lent, we remember St. Mary of Egypt. After recounting the life of St. Mary, Bp. Irineos turns to the current situation of the global pandemic and the failure of many jurisdictions to acknowledge the tragedy of the closing of churches and the separation of the faithful from the mysteries. Without commenting on whether the steps take are wise or not, Bp. Irineos urges us to forthrightly admit that the unavailability of the mysteries is neither a blessing nor an "opportunity" but first and foremost a sorrowful loss to all impacted.

On the Sunday of St. John Climacus, Bp. Irineos looks at the opening paragraph of The Ladder of Divine Ascent and contemplates where we might fall in the classes of rational creatures discussed by St. John, and how the lessons of the icon of the ladder help even those of us living in the world.

With restrictions on the size of gatherings, Bp. Irineos travels to San Antonio to serve a house liturgy for the faithful in the Alamo City. In his homily on the Sunday of the Adoration of the Cross, he assures the faithful to not lose faith even in the face of all the challenges of this year. Reflecting on the teachings of the fathers, he explains how the wood of the cross heals the damage done by the wood of the tree before which Adam and Eve fell to temptation.

On the Second Sunday of Great Lent, Bp. Irineos looks at the Gospel reading of the Paralytic carried on his bed, and the faith of his friends who bore him to Christ. Commenting on the difficult times we are facing, Bp. Irineos urges the faithful away from fear and to stand strongly in faith for themselves and for those around them who are struggling.

On Forgiveness Sunday we enter Great Lent where we are to focus on our own repentance. In his homily today, Bp. Irineos looks at the link between forgiving others and undertaking our own repentance.
