The first week was about HOPE, the second week was about PEACE, and this week is about JOY. We have hope in God through Jesus who is our peace, and He brings us His joy.

Advent simply means “appearing” or “coming,” and an Advent wreath (with its evergreen & candles) is used the four Sundays leading up to Christmas to reflect on Christ’s first coming and to anticipate His Second Coming.

We don’t have to be taught to be selfish; we come by that naturally. We have to learn to be generous. In these two messages from 1 Timothy 6, Dr. Robertson calls us to embrace and employ generosity in our giving and our living.

People sometimes talk about giving until it hurts. Generosity is giving until it feels good. There’s a difference. “God loves a cheerful giver”!

Building Families for Life is our capital fundraising campaign to build and pay for our Family Life Center. The FLC cost $6.3 million to build and occupy in 2008. But by the end of this year, we should be down to a principal balance of $2.3 million! And we’re on track to pay off the debt entirely by 2020, based on past giving habits. Of course, we’ll pay it off sooner if people give more and more people give.

Today is Orphan Sunday in churches across America. A number of years ago, a united effort among churches began to spread throughout our nation to awaken the Christian community to the “pure and undefiled religion” of caring for the orphan. And because foster care is so closely related to and often the conduit that leads to adoption, we give emphasis today to both—adoption and foster care—from a biblical perspective.

Most of us have come to think of adoption or foster care as bringing a child into your family, but today our pastor highlights that it’s really about bringing your family to a child.
