A few years ago, our family vacationed in Texas where it had been raining nonstop. The lush green grass filled the countryside where we stayed. Our much-younger kids romped through the grass to their great delight, but little did I know the danger that lurked there. I noticed some big red bumps on my legs, but just wrote them off as bug bites. Not really thinking, I hoisted my kids on my shoulders and back on some of our walks. We were having a blast! Then, I noticed them forming on my neck and shoulders. What in the world was going on? Not ticks, not mosquitos, not bee stings. What were they? After some research, we nailed the culprit: chiggers – nearly microscopic bugs that hid in lush green grass looking for a host. Once on the host, they crawl up, find a tight secure spot, burrow their way under the skin, and begin feasting away at flesh, forming a huge bump. Itchy, annoying, and uncomfortable! Today, I want to talk to you about chiggers in green grass. We may not have “false prophets” entering our church, but we have wayward voices bombarding us. How do you detect and deal with these “chiggers” in the green grass?
