Who committed the grisly Hinterkaifeck murders of an entire extended family, and their maid, in Hinterkaifeck, Germany?  This week on Solvable Mysteries we investigate the famous cold case of Hinterkaifeck, a name that will live in infamy as one of the most famous international unsolved spree murders in the twentieth century, a case that seems almost like the template of modern horror movies.  The murder happened around March 31st or April 1st of 1922, and seemingly involved someone who may have been secretly living on the premises of the Hinterkaifeck farm for months, according to some theories.  The subsequent investigation triggered revelations of incest, twisted family and romantic relationships, and an inexplicably violent crime using a farm implement to hack several people to death.

Ever since then, many people have asked who could have done this crime, and why.  On this episode, we revisit the famous case, which was our first episode ever for SMP and on this, our hundredth episode,  to find out if our opinions changed in the almost two years since we covered the topic.  We review the psychology of the kind of person who could have done this cold case spree murder, as well as try to figure out how exactly this killer lured several of the family members at Hinterkaifeck to the barn to their deaths.  Finally, we review the many suspects who have come up over the years, to do our best to deliver a convincing theory to try to solve the Hinterkaifeck murders.
