Trusting in God's presence and goodness is a simple enough concept, but let's not mistake that for being easy. In today's episode, Sue engages with a brother in Christ, Paul Granger, to spur us on as we seek to trust God when our human understanding is leading us astray. 
 
 When asked who he is, Paul likes to say "a child of God and ambassador of Christ," because he's learned that these elements of his identity supersede and shape the rest. One of the ways God has invited him to live out the call to "love God and love others" is through creating space for conversation and community, and advocating for those that may go unseen. He has spent the last two decades serving with various ministries, and now serves full time alongside YWAM. He is a well of wisdom; get your journals ready and come hungry for this spiritual feeding!

To listen is to give one's attention to a sound. To discern is to go a step farther and distinguish between those sounds. Do you ever wrestle with uncertainty about whether something you're hearing is from God or not?  In Christ, we are sheep who hear our Shepherd's voice, but rulers of darkness are devoted in their pursuit to speak to us as well. Did you know that God can speak to us clearly to give us direction or encouragement? Listen to today's conversation between Sue and Jacqui Wilson to learn more about hearing God's voice. Jacqui is an action-oriented author, speaker, podcaster, leader, coach, and entrepreneur who shares personal experiences and leaps of faith. God called her from a professional position to start Christian Children's Empowerment (CCE). In doing mission work through CCE, she saw the need for an online school. The concept of Empowerment University for Children was born. Then, she had friends who were seeking to connect with Christian authors, and the Christian Writing & Speaking (CWS) podcast was born.
God speaks to us first and foremost through the Word of God. His Spirit can speak meaningful messages to our minds when we need help. When God speaks to us, He is patient if we need more confirmation. Daily time in the Word helps us to be able to hear God's voice more clearly. When we step out and obey, our faith is strengthened. If the voice you hear is confusing or not consistent with the Bible, then you can know it is not from the Lord. Sometimes we hear a thought, a Scripture, a word or phrase, a conviction, a directive, or a picture.
If He asks us to do something and we don't do it, we may not hear Him again until we obey. Timing is also key. After we hear from God to do something, then we need to pray about the timing.  We can seek in groups with other believers to hear direction from the Lord. The more we practice listening and obeying, the more He will speak His will to us. It will require faith to step out and trust His voice.

Our special guest, Kristin Chadwick is a Transformational Coach and Podcaster who inspires us to use the incredible imagination that God has given us to be creative as the Spirit leads us in our prayer lives. We use our imagination all the time - to worry, to think "What if...", to dream dreams, etc. But we can connect more intimately with Jesus by asking the Spirit to lead us to envision stories of the Bible and the working of God in our lives and others' lives for whom we are praying.

Take time to picture God with you and He will enter into that place. Practice using your imagination, inviting the Spirit into it and God will bring you to a more personal walk with Him. As you do this more and more, like a muscle, this imaginative skill will grow stronger.  Always invite the Spirit into these times so He will protect you and lead you to where He wants you to go.  Spirit-led imagination is not you making up things apart from God, but rather connecting your thoughts with God.

A wonderful way to start (and continue) is to meditate on Scripture. Take a story from the Bible and then use all your senses and imagine what it would be like for that character or for you in that situation. You can also do this through journaling,  or using voice memos. After the Spirit speaks to you, write down your experience. If you are an artist, let the Spirit lead you to draw and speak to you.

Lies can prevent us from being more intimate with God. But through imagination, we can break through strongholds. This frees us from performance for acceptance, doing but not being with God, and not seeing ourselves as God sees us. "Imagination is the backdoor of inner healing" (Kristin Chadwick).
