His Story Podcast

These psalms are read from the NLT translation because the Message's language was distracting and possibly took away from what David was sharing. Psalm 37 is all about wisdom when there's evil and injustice; Psalm 39 dives into self-control when you're surrounded by wicked schemes, how short this life really is, and where we can find our one, true hope! 

Today's scripture is Psalms 37 and 39. 

David's psalms are full of emotion as he processes everything from the pressure from his enemies to God as his fortress, highlighting God's forgiveness and goodness. Fun fact: Jesus quotes David's Psalm 31 on the cross when he says, "Into your hands, I commit my spirit." Ps 31:5 This was a statement of deep faith & trust!

Today's scripture is Psalms 31-33.

David's heart is poured out in the Psalms. Psalm 23 brings the picture of the Lord as the Shepherd and us as the sheep who take confidence in His rod and his staff, guiding us to stay near Him, safe in His care. Psalms 24-26 reveal who the King of Glory is, how He teaches us his ways, and a final proclamation that we will bless the Lord.

Today's scripture is Psalm 23:1-27:5

God's promise came to fruition through Sarah's womb, and she laughed because she was 90 years old and nursing a baby. Years later, she demanded Hagar & Ishmael leave the family. Abraham grieved the loss, but trusted God. Hagar & Ishmael were cast out and almost died in the desert, BUT GOD saw & heard them. He comforted & provided for them.

Today's scripture is Genesis 21:1 - 22:9.

God made a promise to Abram. Sarai didn't wait for God to fulfill His promise, took matters into her own hands, and that backfired. Abram didn't seek wisdom or use good judgment, went along with that plan, then he got blamed. Hagar was abused & ran away, but God met her where she was and saw her heart. 

Today's scripture is Genesis 15:1-17:5.

Abram has a habit of calling his wife, Sarai, his sister (it's not a total lie, actually) when he's scared or in danger. Luckily, God continues to save us from ourselves! We also see Abram's heart to keep peace among his family through his incredible faith in Yahweh.

Today's scripture is Genesis 12:1-13:18.

We finish the story of the flood that destroyed the whole earth. We realize how long Noah and his family had to wait on that massive boat (that took him 100 years to build), and we get to see God's love through His promises and a covenant with us. Next time you see the "bow" in the sky, remember His everlasting love for you!

Today's scripture is Genesis 8:1-9:20.

Genesis 6 introduces us to Noah and his family. In this part of His Story, we will better understand why God flooded the Earth and wanted to start over, who God chose to use to repopulate the Earth, and what being obedient and honoring God looks like (even in the wildest circumstances).
