History's purpose, I gleaned from great historians, is to keep us focused on the present as citizens by learning about the historical figures and situations of our collective and interlocking pasts. So today, to avoid a descent into authoritarianism and fascism, I say we must look to the past for guidance. And we must follow the words of Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan: You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

Murdoch doesn't just have the power to settle lawsuits, he has the power to move world events, almost always in a negative and harmful way. Three of the most destructive events of the 21st century, the Iraq war, the January 6 insurrection and Trump's Big Lie simply could not have happened without Rupert Murdoch saying, "Let's do it."
