Today we dive into the history of African American Cooperatives. George Schuyler, founder of the Young Negro Cooperative League, and Ella Baker, assistant of the Young Negro Cooperative League, organized food co-ops and Black-owned and operated grocery stores throughout the U.S. during the Great Depression to aid the Black community in economic independence and food self-sufficiency.
