First of all, I want to sincerely thank the Hive Open Mic community for the constant support and for providing such a meaningful space where artists can share their voice and grow through music. Week after week, it is truly a blessing to stand here and connect with you all through sound and emotion.

Antes que nada, quiero agradecer sinceramente a la comunidad de Hive Open Mic por el apoyo constante y por brindar un espacio tan significativo donde los artistas pueden compartir su voz y crecer a través de la música. As always, Hive Open Mic comes with a theme, and for Week 306, the theme is “Masks.”

Como siempre, Hive Open Mic llega con un tema, y para la Semana 306 el tema es “Masks.”

When I reflected on this theme, I thought about how often we wear masks in our daily lives — masks of strength, masks of silence, masks that hide vulnerability or fear. Sometimes those masks protect us, but sometimes they also keep us from fully being ourselves. Music, however, has a beautiful way of removing those masks. When we sing, we become honest. We become transparent.

Cuando reflexioné sobre este tema, pensé en cómo muchas veces usamos máscaras en nuestra vida diaria — máscaras de fortaleza, máscaras de silencio, máscaras que esconden vulnerabilidad o miedo. A veces esas máscaras nos protegen, pero otras veces también nos impiden ser completamente nosotros mismos. La música, sin embargo, tiene una manera hermosa de quitar esas máscaras. Cuando cantamos, nos volvemos honestos. Nos volvemos transparentes.

For this week, I decided to present the song “Permanecer” by Manuel. It is a beautiful Spanish song for reflection, and I actually just learned it recently. Even though the song does not directly relate to the theme “Masks,” I felt deeply connected to its message and chose to share it from the heart.

Para esta semana, decidí presentar la canción “Permanecer” de Manuel. Es una hermosa canción en español para la reflexión, y de hecho la aprendí hace muy poco. Aunque la canción no se relaciona directamente con el tema “Masks,” sentí una conexión profunda con su mensaje y decidí compartirla desde el corazón.

“Permanecer” speaks about staying, remaining, holding on — about faithfulness and constancy even in moments of doubt or difficulty. In a way, choosing to remain true to what we believe in is also a way of taking off the mask. It is choosing authenticity over appearance, depth over surface.

“Permanecer” habla de quedarse, de permanecer, de mantenerse firme — de fidelidad y constancia incluso en momentos de duda o dificultad. De alguna manera, elegir permanecer fiel a lo que creemos también es una forma de quitarnos la máscara. Es elegir la autenticidad por encima de la apariencia, la profundidad por encima de la superficie.

In this performance, I present the song with simplicity, allowing the guitar and the voice to flow naturally together. Since I am still growing with this piece, there is something very genuine about offering it in this stage of learning. Sometimes removing the mask also means allowing ourselves to be imperfect and still show up.

En esta interpretación, presento la canción con sencillez, permitiendo que la guitarra y la voz fluyan juntas de manera natural. Como aún estoy creciendo con esta pieza, hay algo muy genuino en ofrecerla en esta etapa de aprendizaje. A veces quitarse la máscara también significa permitirnos ser imperfectos y aun así presentarnos.
