Hobby Time in the Murder Basement

If you are like me, you have been swept away by the Squidmar craze.  When Emil hit the scene, he dominated it unlike any other channel than I have witnessed.  In under 2 years he has built a huge YouTube channel, a fantastic community of hobby enthusiasts, and has launched one of the most successful Kickstarters I have ever seen on the miniature side of the hobby.  This was such a fun conversation, and we covered so much territory, you are just going to have to tune in to hear all the fun.  Support my Patreon https://www.patreon.com/Heathaldrich Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts. I think I said the name of Lauren's studio wrong in my intro... I am an idiot.  I first met Lauren last year at Warfaire Weekend by taking one of her classes.  After I saw her portfolio at http://griffonsroostpainting.com/  I knew I wanted to take a class from her.  She is also a commission miniature artist, so we had a lot to cover in this episode.  If you have been looking for a new commission artist to support, make sure you reach out to her. Midwinter Minis was one of the first YouTube channels I watched that used cool music for its soundtrack, so I was instantly hooked.  It was a good thing that the content was as good as the music, because I think that has been a real strength of the channel.  Once Penny was part of the videos, success was all but assured.  Guy and Penny are so fun to listen to, and really make the hobby space a more health and happy place, and I was thrilled to have them both on the show.  We cover all sorts of topics in this video, so I am excited to hear what you all think of them unscripted.  Midwinter Minis YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9XTzwex6rGLVUGS9cLKFLw  Support my Patreon https://www.patreon.com/Heathaldrich Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts. WE TALK FOR ALMOST 2.5 HOURS

If you are anything like me, terrain videos are something you consume at a higher rate than most, because it all seems so attainable, but then you bust out the plaster and glue, get your foam all cut, and you realize that it is much harder than you expected. So you go back to YouTube and you search for the hits, and and almost every video topic you can think of, Jeremy from Black Magic Craft is there.  You click on a few, and realize you have been doing it all wrong, and Jeremy has the answers.  So you subscribe and binge Black Magic Craft's videos, and pretty soon, you are a better person for it.  I had such a fun time talking with Jeremy, we have so much in common.  This is a long one, and we get way in the weeds on running a business with YouTube as a main focus, so strap in, because we go there.  here is a link to Black Magic Craft: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2Rlv-ug-mtnXuMwlpcqFgg www.blackmagiccraft.ca  Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts. I first learned about Chris on an Interview with the Artist episode of Vince Venturella, and I was floored by his work.  He manages to capture a mood and a scene unlike any other miniature artist out there, except maybe Roman Lappat.  I found out that he was teaching classes at Warfaire Weekend here in St. Louis, and I knew I had to meet him, so I signed up and learned about color theory from him.  There were only 3 of us in the class, so we took the time to joke, look at minis, and get to understand the man behind the art.  https://www.instagram.com/chris_suhre_miniature_art/  Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts. Scott the miniature maniac, or Miniac, is one of those channels that has been so cool to watch them go from a small audience to one of the largest hobby content creators on YouTube.  To be completely honest and transparent, I was not exactly sure what to expect when talking to Scott.  He is so lively and entertaining on his channel, but is more reserved and composed on the Trapped Under Plastic podcast.  We had literally had zero interactions before our conversation, so I went in expecting to interact with the character, Scott the Miniature Maniac, but what I got was a humble Scott, a guy who really loves what he does, and takes his path very seriously.  So, if I come off a little more aggressive than I usually do, it is because for the first time in my history of talking with people about stuff, I was genuinely caught off guard by him.  We have a great discussion about the leap of faith it takes to go full time on YouTube, and we even take a look at the dark underside of content creation.  Thank you Scott for chatting with me, I hope you want to do it again in the future, and this time I will be more prepared.    Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts. I first heard about Reiner72 from his work on the models from the game Judgement, which is ran by two brothers from Australia, so I assumed he would also be from Australia... I was wrong.  Reiner72 is from my home base state of Missouri, and he is a great painter and very cool streamer.  This month Reiner72 is pushing for Twitch Partner, which is a really hard thing to do in the mini painting world, so lets help him achieve his goals! Give him a follow on Twitch, and make sure you sub to his YouTube as well.  https://www.twitch.tv/reiner72 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0ekJvvqywd8RMHqlajYHqw  Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts.  Make sure you like, subscribe, and share this with your friends.  Lets boost the signal of this channel!

Jon Ninas has paved a path for himself in the miniature hobby in a way that was very inspiring to me.  He wanted to talk, and hang out, he reached out to Scott the Miniature Maniac, and now he is on a biweekly podcast called Trapped Under Plastic with Scott, and is now one of the most influential miniature painters on the scene, even if he doesn't know that yet.  Jon has an upcoming YouTube Channel that you should subscribe to so you can be the first to comment on his upcoming videos. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG7ErJtvi7Z4OiXSuAeKdZg Trapped Under Plastic https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtZEJfdpBoQSuWccVyfvO4g  Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts.  Make sure you like, subscribe, and share this with your friends.  Lets boost the signal of this channel!

After I interviewed Eenieminis, I reached out to her to find more streamers who I should talk to, and one of the ones she told me to reach out to was Mocha.  Mocha is one of the most chill and positive streamers I have ever watched.  If Eenie is full of sass, Mocha is full of... sunshine?  It feels weird to type that, but it isn't wrong.  I was so happy when our schedules could align to have out chat, because her and I had so many similarities in our lives, that it almost weirded me out.  Stay through to the very end, Mocha has a confession that blew my mind, and made me like her even more.   Check out Mocha's stream at https://www.twitch.tv/mocha_minis  Check out my twitch at www.twitch.tv/heathaldrich Check out my music at https://heathaldrich.bandcamp.com/ If you want a podcast version of this episode https://open.spotify.com/show/0PganrMaZnzuRjZ6lnvcet?si=hsoiTMubRhi1hHwcUucJDA or search wherever you get your podcasts.  Make sure you like, subscribe, and share this with your friends.  Lets boost the signal of this channel!
