There’s an old saying, the older I get, the less I know. I certainly have found that to be true. At least I know it in my head. But often I find that my heart and my mind react like I must know more…at least more than whoever it is that sees things differently. In chapter 12 Paul will get into some very practical ways to work together as a church. But first he needs the church in Rome to see that in the gospel there is a prerequisite to unity.

Today we continue in our Romans series by looking at Paul’s desire for the gospel to be heard by his own people. There’s only one problem. He was called to go somewhere else and preach to other people. What is Paul’s hope then for the gospel to reach his family? As he’ll tell us this morning, he’s looking for people with beautiful feet.

Today we come back to our series in Romans. Have you ever said something and had someone take it to mean the exact opposite of what you intended. Or taken actions hoping for one result, but ending up in the other direction? Romans 9 begins a section where Paul is making his case for unity. In the history of the church, somehow this passage has prompted some of the great divisions. Today, we live in a world as polarized as it ever has been. The challenge for us in these next few messages is to allow Paul to lead us toward the unity he desired in the body of Christ.

Today we finish our series on membership by looking at the commitment we make when we join a congregation. God has called his people to be a community on mission. It takes commitment to create community.
