Throughout Matthew, we’ve been asking a question the disciples asked in Matthew 8: “What kind of man is this?” As we finish chapter 14, the disciples have found their answer.

The question today isn’t which feast do you want to attend, but which one do you put out for those in front of you? Today we’ll see a feast in the palace of Herod and another in the wilderness with Jesus. Each shows a kingdom competing for our allegiance. The kingdom that feeds itself at the cost of others, or others at the cost of self.

What would you do if you found a treasure? Not just any treasure, but one that would change your life and the lives of everyone around you? Jesus challenges his audience in this last set of parables to be the ones who will not stop at finding treasure, but do whatever it takes to claim it.
