1 Samuel 9: Los problemas como una transición hacia la bendición.

1 Samuel 9:1-10:
Había un hombre de Benjamín que se llamaba Quis hijo de Abiel, hijo de Zeror, hijo de Becorat, hijo de Afíaj, hijo de un hombre de Benjamín, un guerrero valiente. Este tenía un hijo que se llamaba Saúl, joven y apuesto. Entre los hijos de Israel no había otro mejor que él; de hombros arriba sobrepasaba a cualquiera del pueblo. A Quis, padre de Saúl, se le perdieron sus asnas. Entonces Quis dijo a su hijo Saúl: —Por favor, toma contigo a uno de los criados, levántate y ve a buscar las asnas.
Ellos pasaron por la región montañosa de Efraín, y de allí a la tierra de Salisa, pero no las hallaron. Entonces pasaron por la tierra de Saalim, y tampoco. Después pasaron por la tierra de Benjamín, pero no las hallaron. Cuando llegaron a la tierra de Zuf, Saúl dijo a su criado que lo acompañaba: —Ven, volvámonos, porque quizás mi padre, dejando de preocuparse por las asnas, esté preocupado por nosotros.
Él le respondió: —He aquí, en esta ciudad hay un hombre de Dios, un hombre muy respetado. Todo lo que él dice sucede sin fallar. Ahora vamos allá; quizás nos señale el camino por donde debemos ir.
Saúl respondió a su criado: —Pero si vamos, ¿qué llevaremos al hombre? Porque el pan de nuestras alforjas ya se ha acabado. No tenemos un presente que llevar al hombre de Dios. ¿Qué tenemos?
El criado volvió a responder a Saúl y dijo: —He aquí, tengo en mi poder como tres gramos de plata. Se lo daré al hombre de Dios para que nos indique nuestro camino.
Antiguamente en Israel cualquiera que iba a consultar a Dios decía: “Vengan y vayamos al vidente”; porque al profeta de hoy, antiguamente se le llamaba vidente.
Entonces Saúl dijo a su criado —Bien dices; anda, vamos.

En este capítulo vemos la elección del primer rey de Israel. Dios escogió a un hombre de una familia reconocida porque el padre era un hombre valiente. Su hijo Saúl fue el elegido. Sus cualidades eran especiales; él era amable, respetuoso con sus padres y con los demás, ayudaba en su casa, y trabajaba en equipo. Además de eso, él respetaba y creía en la autoridad del profeta de Dios para pedirle consejo, no quiso presentarse delante de él sin antes tener algún presente en su mano. También era un hombre de buena estatura y físicamente apuesto.

Esto es importante entenderlo para que podamos aprender las cosas positivas de Saúl. Más adelante veremos como él se salió de la voluntad de Dios pero ahora admiremos sus cualidades cuando fue llamado y escogido para ser rey.

La lección principal de hoy es que vamos a tener alguna circunstancia en nuestras vidas que van a parecer difícil y complicada pero que nos van a llevar hacia el propósito de Dios que Él tiene preparado para nosotros y nuestras familias, así como las asnas se perdieron y fue el pretexto de Dios para guiar a Saúl hacia el profeta Samuel para que lo ungiera como el nuevo rey de Israel. La vida de Saúl, su padre y toda su familia cambiarían drásticamente; ellos pasarían de ser una familia común y regular a una familia real. Por eso Samuel le declaró a Saul en el verso 20: “¿para quién será todo lo más preciado en Israel? ¿Acaso no será para toda la casa de tu padre?”

Así que, siempre que pase algún suceso inesperado en nuestra vida, preguntemos al Señor si esto es para algún propósito que Dios tiene con nosotros.
Recordemos el mensaje de Dios por medio de Jeremías en Jeremías 29:11: “Porque yo sé los planes que tengo acerca de ustedes, dice el SEÑOR, planes de bienestar y no de mal, para darles porvenir y esperanza.”
Y el mensaje de Pablo a la iglesia en Romanos 8:28: “Y sabemos que Dios hace que todas las cosas ayuden para bien a los que lo aman; esto es, a los que son llamados conforme a su propósito.”

1 Samuel 9:1-10:
There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power. And he had a choice and handsome son whose name was Saul. There was not a more handsome person than he among the children of Israel. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people. Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to his son Saul, “Please take one of the servants with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys.” So he passed through the mountains of Ephraim and through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and they were not there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not find them.
When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come, let us return, lest my father cease caring about the donkeys and become worried about us.”
And he said to him, “Look now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass. So let us go there; perhaps he can show us the way that we should go.”
Then Saul said to his servant, “But look, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread in our vessels is all gone, and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?”
And the servant answered Saul again and said, “Look, I have here at hand one-fourth of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God, to tell us our way.” (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he spoke thus: “Come, let us go to the seer”; for he who is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer.)
Then Saul said to his servant, “Well said; come, let us go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was.

In this chapter we see the election of the first king of Israel. God chose a man from a well-known family because the father was a brave man. His son Saul was chosen. His qualities were special; he was kind, respectful to his parents and to others, helped at home, and worked as a team. In addition to that, he respected and believed in the authority of the prophet of God to ask him for advice, he did not want to appear before him without first having some present in his hand. He was also a man of good stature and physically handsome.

This is important to understand so that we can learn the positive things about Saul. Later we will see how he got out of God's will but now let's admire his qualities when he was called and chosen to be king.

Today's main lesson is that we are going to have some circumstance in our lives that are going to seem difficult and complicated but that are going to lead us towards God's purpose that He has prepared for us and our families, just as the donkeys were lost and it was God's pretext to lead Saul to the prophet Samuel to anoint him as the new king of Israel. The life of Saul, his father and his entire family would change drastically; they would go from being an ordinary, regular family to a royal family. That is why Samuel declared to Saul in verse 20: “And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you and on all your father’s house?”

So, whenever something unexpected happens in our life, let us ask the Lord if this is for some purpose that God has with us.
Let us remember God's message through Jeremiah in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
And Paul's message to the church in Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

1 Samuel 8: ¿Quién es el rey en tu corazón y hogar?

1 Samuel 8:1-9:

Los israelitas fueron liberados de Egipto, y Dios había establecido que Él sería el Rey de Israel, y que serían guiados y gobernados con Sus leyes dirigidos por sus profetas y sacerdotes. Israel sería una nación cuyo modelo político no sería una república, ni una monarquía, ni una democracia, sería una teocracia. Dios sería su Rey. Pero Israel tenía un corazón de esclavo, siempre buscaban el mal y eran oprimidos por sus enemigos. En esos momentos duros se acordaban de su Rey Celestial y volvían a Sus pies pidiendo ser liberados. Dios siempre peleaba sus batallas, rescatándolos y poniendo líderes para que los guiaran bajo Su dirección por medio de Su Espíritu Santo que hablaba al corazón de los jueces, profetas y sacerdotes.
En este capítulo, ellos anhelaban un rey terrenal, después de que Dios les había dado tremendas victorias sobre sus enemigos. Aunque tenían a Samuel para que los dirigiera, ellos exigieron un líder que, de manera oficial, los gobernara como las otras naciones.
Israel perdió su identidad, olvidaron que ellos eran un pueblo diferente, especial. ¡Incluso los filisteos reconocían que Israel tenía un Dios que habitaba en medio de ellos! Todos los adversarios de Israel reconocieron el gran poder de Dios y la presencia de Dios que estaba con ellos.
No tenían el arca en el tabernáculo, habían dejado sus costumbres y tradiciones sagradas, y se habían conformado con vivir vidas rutinarias. Anhelaron ser como los demás y no valoraron que ellos eran un pueblo único.
Es por eso que el Señor se entristeció por esto. Les concedió la petición pero les dejó una advertencia que ellos serían dominados por el rey y serían sus súbditos. Perderían ciertas libertades y serían responsables de la manutención del rey y toda su corte. Serían como cualquier nación sobre la tierra.
De la misma manera, nosotros debemos, como cristianos, decidir quién es el que reina en nuestra vida y corazones. A veces las comparaciones con otras personas nos pueden impulsar a buscar otras cosas que tomen el lugar de Dios, que se sienten en el trono de Dios que son nuestros corazones, y perdamos nuestra verdadera devoción a Dios, nuestra identidad de adoradores que adoran en espíritu y en verdad.
Es posible que nos acostumbremos a ir a la congregación los domingos pero con otro rey en nuestro corazón. Posiblemente hemos permitido que la lujuria y la inmoralidad tomen control, o la avaricia sea la que guíe nuestras acciones. Posiblemente el rencor sea la que ahora gobierne nuestras vidas y nos domine por años, a pesar de que vayamos todos los días a la iglesia y hasta tengamos alguna posición de liderazgo en la congregación.
¿Quién reina en tu corazón? Cualquier cosa que reine en tu vida esa será la que gobierne en tu hogar. Nosotros mismos introducimos estos reyes al hogar y van despojando al Señor de su trono. Es por eso que el apóstol Pablo nos aconseja que dejemos que el Espíritu de Dios sea el que nos fortalezca y habite en nuestro corazón para que nuestra alma sea fortalecida cada día.
Efesios 3:16-17 dice: “Pido al Padre que de su gloriosa riqueza les dé a ustedes, interiormente, poder y fuerza por medio del Espíritu de Dios, que Cristo viva en sus corazones por la fe, y que el amor sea la raíz y el fundamento de sus vidas.” (Dios Habla Hoy).

Evaluemos cuáles son nuestras prioridades, renunciemos a sentimientos del pasado que llenan nuestras vidas de resentimientos que impiden que el Espíritu de Dios fluya con libertad. Alejémonos de cualquier hábito o actitud que quieran influenciar nuestras vida, cualquier cosa que se ponga de moda de forma mundana y nos alejen del Rey de reyes y Señor de señores. Cuidemos siempre sobre quién será el centro de nuestras vidas. Que el único al que sirvamos sea Jesucristo nuestro Señor; afirmémonos y declaremos como Josué cuando le dijo al pueblo: “Ustedes decidan a quién van a servir si a los dioses de Egipto o los dioses de Canaán, pero yo y mi casa serviremos al Señor.”

1 Samuel 8: Who is the king in your heart and home?

1 Samuel 8:1-9:
Now it came to pass when Samuel was old that he made his sons judges over Israel. The name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in Beersheba. But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice. Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.”

The Israelites were freed from Egypt, and God had established that He would be the King of Israel, and that they would be guided and governed with His laws guided by their prophets and priests. Israel would be a nation whose political model would not be a republic, nor a monarchy, nor a democracy, it would be a theocracy. God would be their King. But Israel had a slave heart, they always sought evil and were oppressed by their enemies. In those hard moments they remembered their Heavenly King and returned to His feet asking to be freed. God always fought their battles, rescuing them and putting leaders to guide them under His direction through His Holy Spirit who spoke to the hearts of the judges, prophets and priests.
In this chapter, they longed for an earthly king, after God had given them tremendous victories over their enemies. Although they had Samuel to lead them, they demanded a leader who would officially rule over them like other nations.
Israel lost their identity, they forgot that they were a different, special people. Even the Philistines recognized that Israel had a God who lived in their midst! All the adversaries of Israel recognized the great power of God and the presence of God that was with them.
They did not have the ark in the tabernacle, they had left their sacred customs and traditions, and had been content to live routine lives. They longed to be like the others and did not appreciate that they were a unique people.
That is why the Lord was saddened by this. He granted their request but left them a warning that they would be dominated by the king and would be his subjects. They would lose certain freedoms and would be responsible for the support of the king and his entire court. They would be like any nation on Earth.
In the same way, we must, as Christians, decide who is the one who reigns in our lives and hearts. Sometimes comparisons with other people can lead us to look for other things that take the place of God, that sit on the throne of God that is our hearts, and we lose our true devotion to God, our identity as worshipers who worship in spirit and in truth.
We may get used to going to church on Sunday but with another king in our hearts. We may have allowed lust and immorality to take control, or greed to guide our actions. Possibly resentment is the one that now governs our lives and dominates us for years, despite the fact that we go to church every day and even have some leadership position in the congregation.
Who reigns in your heart? Whatever reigns in your life, that will be the one that rules in your home. We ourselves introduce these kings to the home and they are stripping the Lord of His throne. That is why the apostle Paul advises us to let the Spirit of God be the One that strengthens us and dwells in our hearts so that our soul is strengthened every day.
Ephesians 3:16-17 says: “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” (NLT).

Let us evaluate what our priorities are, let us renounce past feelings that fill our lives with resentments that prevent the Spirit of God from flowing freely. Let's get away from any habit or attitude that wants to influence our lives, anything that becomes fashionable in a mundane way and takes us away from the King of kings and Lord of lords. Let us always care about who will be the center of our lives. That the only one we serve is Jesus Christ our Lord; let us affirm ourselves and declare as Joshua when he told the people: “You decide who you are going to serve, the gods of Egypt or the gods of Canaan, but I and my house will serve the Lord .”

1 Samuel 7: Pasos para la restauración, liberación y victoria.

1 Samuel 7:3‭-‬12 RVA2015:
Entonces Samuel habló a toda la casa de Israel, diciendo: —Si de todo su corazón se vuelven al SEÑOR, quiten de en medio de ustedes los dioses extraños y las Astartes, y preparen su corazón para el SEÑOR. Sírvanle solo a él, y él los librará de mano de los filisteos. Entonces los hijos de Israel quitaron los Baales y las Astartes, y sirvieron solo al SEÑOR. Y Samuel dijo: —Reúnan a todo Israel en Mizpa, y yo oraré por ustedes al SEÑOR. Se reunieron en Mizpa, sacaron agua y la vertieron delante del SEÑOR. Aquel día ayunaron allí y dijeron: —Hemos pecado contra el SEÑOR. Y Samuel juzgaba a los hijos de Israel en Mizpa. Cuando los filisteos oyeron que los hijos de Israel se habían reunido en Mizpa, los gobernantes de ellos subieron contra Israel. Al oír esto, los hijos de Israel tuvieron temor de los filisteos. Y los hijos de Israel dijeron a Samuel: —No ceses de clamar por nosotros al SEÑOR nuestro Dios, para que nos guarde de la mano de los filisteos. Entonces Samuel tomó un cordero de leche y lo ofreció entero al SEÑOR, como holocausto. Samuel clamó al SEÑOR por Israel, y el SEÑOR lo escuchó. Y aconteció que mientras Samuel ofrecía el holocausto, los filisteos se acercaron para combatir contra los hijos de Israel. Pero el SEÑOR tronó aquel día con gran estruendo sobre los filisteos. Él los confundió, y ellos fueron derrotados ante Israel. Los hombres de Israel salieron de Mizpa y persiguieron a los filisteos, hiriéndolos hasta abajo de Betcar. Luego Samuel tomó una piedra y la puso entre Mizpa y Sen, y la llamó Eben-ezer, diciendo: —¡Hasta aquí nos ayudó el SEÑOR!

En este capítulo vemos el gran momento de arrepentimiento, reconciliación y restauración del pueblo de Israel. Ellos ahora estaban delante de Dios, siguiendo los consejos de Samuel para que regresaran al camino de Dios.
Notemos el proceso de una actitud de humillación. Primero les indica que deben dejar los dioses que los hacen desviarse del Señor. Después les indica que deben entregar su corazón al Señor. Y por último, les anima a que sirvan al Señor.
Ellos siguieron su ejemplo y consejos al pie de la letra. Trajeron los dioses y los destruyeron, pusieron en su corazón a Dios como el centro de sus vidas, y encendieron la pasión de adorar a Dios y seguir sus mandamientos con total entrega. Además, se comprometieron a servir al Señor el Dios de sus antepasados.

Este es un ejemplo muy hermoso para que tú y yo podamos seguir en ese orden: Arrepentirnos y confesarnos, entregarnos de corazón con todo nuestro ser, y dedicar nuestras vidas con voluntad y pasión.
Cuando los israelitas hicieron esto, el enemigo planeó hacer guerra contra Israel. El enemigo los vio como una amenaza y quería destruirlos.
Así mismo, el enemigo de nuestras almas también se levanta cuando nosotros tomamos la determinación de continuar en los caminos de Dios, de alejarnos de la maldad, de encender esa pasión por la presencia de Dios y por convertirnos en instrumentos vivientes para el reino de Dios.
Pero, ¡no te preocupes! Así como el Señor salvó a Su pueblo de forma sobrenatural, igualmente el Señor nos rodeará con Su poder y protegerá nuestras familias.
¡Espero que esta enseñanza te inspire más a vivir para Dios, a ser un ejemplo a seguir para tu familia y que juntos puedan derrotar al enemigo!

1 Samuel 7: Steps to restoration, deliverance and victory.

1 Samuel 7:3-12:
Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” So the children of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only. And Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.” So they gathered together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before the Lord. And they fasted that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah. Now when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines. So the children of Israel said to Samuel, “Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.” And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. Now as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the Lord thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel. And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and drove them back as far as below Beth Car. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

In this chapter we see the great moment of repentance, reconciliation and restoration of the people of Israel. They were now before God, following Samuel's advice to return to God's path.
Notice the process of an attitude of humiliation. He first tells them that they must leave the gods that make them stray from the Lord. He then instructs them to give their hearts to the Lord. And finally, he encourages them to serve the Lord.
They followed his example and advice to the letter. They brought the gods and destroyed them, they put God in their hearts as the center of their lives, and they ignited the passion to worship God and follow His commandments with total dedication. Furthermore, they pledged to serve the Lord the God of their ancestors.

This is a very beautiful example so that you and I can follow in that order: Repent and confess, surrender from the heart with all our being, and dedicate our lives with will and passion.
When the Israelites did this, the enemy planned to make war against Israel. The enemy saw them as a threat and wanted to destroy them.
Likewise, the enemy of our souls also rises when we make the determination to continue in the ways of God, to turn away from evil, to ignite that passion for the presence of God and to become living instruments for the kingdom of God.
But do not worry! Just as the Lord supernaturally saved His people, the Lord will surround us with His power and protect our families.
I hope this teaching inspires you more to live for God, to be a role model for your family and that together you can defeat the enemy!

1 Samuel 6: Reconociendo la corrección y disciplina de Dios.

1 Samuel 6:1‭-‬8 RVA2015:
El arca del SEÑOR estuvo en la tierra de los filisteos siete meses. Entonces los filisteos llamaron a los sacerdotes y adivinos, y les preguntaron: —¿Qué haremos con el arca del SEÑOR? Dennos a conocer cómo la hemos de enviar a su lugar. Ellos respondieron: —Si envían el arca del Dios de Israel, no la envíen sola; sino más bien envíenle una ofrenda por la culpa. Entonces serán sanados y entenderán por qué su mano no se apartó de ustedes. Ellos preguntaron: —¿Cuál será la ofrenda por la culpa que le hemos de enviar? Ellos respondieron: —Darán cinco tumores de oro y cinco ratones de oro, conforme al número de los gobernantes de los filisteos, porque la misma plaga los ha afligido a todos ustedes y a sus gobernantes. Hagan, pues, figuras de sus tumores y de los ratones que destruyen la tierra, y den gloria al Dios de Israel; quizás aligere el peso de su mano sobre ustedes, sobre sus dioses y sobre su tierra. ¿Por qué endurecen su corazón, como los egipcios y el faraón endurecieron su corazón? Después que él se había mofado de ellos, ¿no los dejaron ir, y se fueron? Hagan, pues, una carreta nueva; luego tomen dos vacas que estén criando, sobre las cuales no haya sido puesto yugo; aten las vacas a la carreta y hagan volver sus terneros, de detrás de ellas, al corral. Tomen luego el arca del SEÑOR y pónganla sobre la carreta. Pongan junto a ella, en una caja, los objetos de oro que le han de dar como ofrenda por la culpa, y déjenla ir.

En este capítulo podemos ver cómo Dios trajo castigo a los filisteos que pensaron que podían tener encerrado al Dios de Israel. Ellos comenzaron a ver que Dios hacía estragos entre ellos y reconocieron que teniendo el arca les estaba trayendo problemas. Ellos mismos reconocieron que el Dios de los israelitas era el mismo que había traído peste, plagas y destrucción a los Egipcios. Los mismos magos y sacerdotes de los dioses filisteos reconocieron el poder de Dios manifestado en contra de los egipcios, y por eso los filisteos debían ser prudentes y entendidos de que no podían irse en contra de Dios, pues estaban sufriendo de la misma forma que los egipcios sufrieron, y si no reaccionaban y tomaban acción ahora, entonces la destrucción sería peor.
¡Este episodio del tiempo que duró el arca en tierra filistea me impresiona mucho! Siete meses que los filisteos no supieron de dónde provenía su maldición hasta que ellos estudiaron la historia del Dios de Israel, de cómo Él desplegó todo Su poder sobre Egipto, y fue así cómo ataron cabos y llegaron a la conclusión de que Dios era el que estaba obrando y trayendo castigo.
Los filisteos no querían deshacerse de su posesión más valiosa, el artefacto que simbolizaba la victoria sobre los israelitas, sus enemigos.

Aquí vemos la ignorancia y testarudez en la que un ser humano puede caer cuando se empecina en aferrarse a su propia opinión, pensando que lo que están haciendo les va a seguir funcionando cuando realmente nada mejora. Siete meses de tortura, enfermedad y dolor. Cuando los sabios de Filistea concluyeron acerca de la fuente del problema, tuvieron que convencer a los gobernadores y dirigentes del pueblo para que devolvieran el arca, ya que su orgullo y arrogancia los estaba consumiendo. Hasta les dieron opción para que pudieran cerciorarse si esto provenía de Dios o era una mera coincidencia, poniendo el arca en un carro y mirando si el carro, halado por vacas, tomaba el camino hacia israel o no. A ese punto tuvieron que acudir porque todavía había mucho escepticismo acerca de la procedencia de la maldición.

¡Seamos mejores que los filisteos! Debemos reconocer la grandeza de Dios y también las consecuencias que sufrimos cuando nosotros estamos lejos de Su presencia y Su divina voluntad. Si estamos teniendo un comportamiento que no le agrada a Dios; por favor, usemos el sentido común y también el conocimiento que tenemos de la Palabra de Dios para poder entender las cosas que debemos modificar en nuestras vidas.
No podemos vivir en negación, intentando continuar agradando a Dios pero haciendo o actuando de forma equivocada. Sí, es verdad que la gracia de Dios es inmensa, pero debemos llegar a un punto de inflexión donde debemos reconocer que no podemos tener a Dios y a Dagón en el mismo cuarto. No podemos tener el Espíritu de Dios en nuestro corazón y, a la vez, tener malos hábitos, odio, resentimiento, orgullo, etc. en el corazón.

Si los filisteos que no conocían nada de la Palabra de Dios, llegaron a esa conclusión, ¿cuánto más nosotros que tenemos acceso a la Palabra de Dios, a Su presencia y a Su poder?
Si Dios nos habla, sintámonos privilegiados por sentir Su mano corrigiéndonos.
Hebreos 12:6 dice: “Porque el Señor disciplina al que ama y castiga a todo el que recibe como hijo.”

1 Samuel 6: Acknowledging God's correction and discipline.

1 Samuel 6:1-8:
Now the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines seven months. And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, “What shall we do with the ark of the Lord? Tell us how we should send it to its place.” So they said, “If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it empty; but by all means return it to Him with a trespass offering. Then you will be healed, and it will be known to you why His hand is not removed from you.” Then they said, “What is the trespass offering which we shall return to Him?” They answered, “Five golden tumors and five golden rats, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines. For the same plague was on all of you and on your lords. Therefore you shall make images of your tumors and images of your rats that ravage the land, and you shall give glory to the God of Israel; perhaps He will lighten His hand from you, from your gods, and from your land. Why then do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When He did mighty things among them, did they not let the people go, that they might depart? Now therefore, make a new cart, take two milk cows which have never been yoked, and hitch the cows to the cart; and take their calves home, away from them. Then take the ark of the Lord and set it on the cart; and put the articles of gold which you are returning to Him as a trespass offering in a chest by its side. Then send it away, and let it go.

In this chapter we can see how God brought punishment to the Philistines who thought they could have locked up the God of Israel. They began to see that God was wreaking havoc among them and they recognized that having the ark was bringing them trouble. They themselves recognized that the God of the Israelites was the same One who had brought pestilence, plagues and destruction to the Egyptians. The same magicians and priests of the Philistine gods recognized the power of God manifested against the Egyptians and, for this reason, the Philistines had to be prudent and understood that they could not go against God, because they were suffering in the same way as the Egyptians suffered, and if they didn't react and take action now, then the destruction would be worse.
This episode of the time that the ark lasted in Philistine land impresses me very much! Seven months that the Philistines did not know where their curse came from until they studied the history of the God of Israel, how He displayed all His power over Egypt, and that is how they tied the dots and came to the conclusion that God was the One who was working and bringing punishment.
The Philistines did not want to part with their most valuable possession, the artifact that symbolized victory over the Israelites, their enemies.

Here we see the ignorance and stubbornness in which a human being can fall when they insist on clinging to their own opinion, thinking that what they are doing will continue to work for them when nothing really improves. Seven months of torture, illness and pain. When the wise men of Philistia concluded about the source of the problem, they had to convince the governors and leaders of the people to return the ark, since their pride and arrogance were consuming them. They even gave them an option so that they could ascertain if this came from God or was a mere coincidence, putting the ark on a cart and seeing if the cart, pulled by cows, took the road to Israel or not. They had to get to that point because there was still a lot of skepticism about the origin of the curse.

Let's be better than the Philistines! We must recognize the greatness of God and also the consequences we suffer when we are far from His presence and His divine will. If we are having a behavior that does not please God; please let us use common sense and also the knowledge we have of the Word of God to be able to understand the things that we must modify in our lives.
We cannot live in denial, trying to continue to please God but doing or acting wrong. Yes, it is true that the grace of God is immense, but we must reach a turning point where we must recognize that we cannot have God and Dagon in the same room. We cannot have the Spirit of God in our hearts and at the same time have bad habits, hatred, resentment, pride, etc. in the heart.
If the Philistines, who did not know anything about the Word of God, reached that conclusion, how much more do we who have access to the Word of God, to His presence and His power?
If God speaks to us, let us feel privileged to feel His hand correcting us.
Hebrews 12:6 says: “For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child.” (NLT).

1 Samuel 5: No es a mi manera, es a la manera de Dios.
1 Samuel 5:6-12:
La mano del SEÑOR se agravó contra los de Asdod: Los asoló y los hirió con tumores, tanto en Asdod como en sus territorios. Al ver esto, los hombres de Asdod dijeron: —¡Que no se quede con nosotros el arca del Dios de Israel, porque su mano es dura sobre nosotros y sobre Dagón nuestro dios!
Entonces mandaron reunirse con ellos a todos los gobernantes de los filisteos y les preguntaron: —¿Qué haremos con el arca del Dios de Israel?
Ellos respondieron: —Que el arca del Dios de Israel sea trasladada a Gat.
Y trasladaron el arca del Dios de Israel. Pero aconteció, después que la habían trasladado, que la mano del SEÑOR fue contra la ciudad ocasionando gran pánico. E hirió a los hombres de la ciudad, desde el menor hasta el mayor, de modo que aparecieron en ellos tumores. Entonces enviaron el arca de Dios a Ecrón. Y sucedió que cuando el arca de Dios llegó a Ecrón, los de Ecrón dieron voces diciendo: —¡Han trasladado hasta nosotros el arca del Dios de Israel, para que nos haga morir a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo!
Entonces mandaron reunir a todos los gobernantes de los filisteos, y dijeron: —Envíen el arca del Dios de Israel y que vuelva a su lugar, no sea que nos mate a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo.
Pues había pánico de muerte en toda la ciudad, y la mano de Dios se había agravado allí. Los hombres que no habían muerto fueron llagados con tumores, y el clamor de la ciudad subía hasta el cielo.

Ayer vimos cómo el arca fue secuestrada por los enemigos de Israel. Aunque ellos tomaron el arca como un botín y como símbolo de conquista sobre Israel, ellos sabían que el arca representaba la presencia del Dios Todopoderoso que había hecho estragos en Egipto. Es por eso que esta conquista significaba mucho, pues para ellos esto era señal que su dios Dagón era más poderoso que el mismo Dios al que tanto respetaban, que presentaron el arca del Dios de Israel como ofrenda al dios de los filisteos. ¡Su dios, en forma de pez, cayó tres veces y quedó desmenuzado al frente de del arca! También los filisteos comenzaron a morir por una plaga que Dios había desatado sobre ellos porque ellos ignoraban cuál era el trato que se debía dar al arca.
Aunque ellos sabían del poder del Dios de Israel y conocían su fama, ellos no sabían que el arca debía ser transportada sobre los hombros de miembros de la tribu de Leví. Muchos murieron y otros se llenaron de plagas.

La lección de hoy nos muestra que Dios tiene establecido sus parámetros y sus reglas inquebrantables. Ayer vimos un Israel confiado, pensando que tenían la cobertura y protección de Dios y, a la misma vez, podían estar en pecado; pensaron que el arca, el objeto visible que representaba la presencia del Dios invisible, les daba esa posición de privilegio, pero Dios les mostró que eso no era el orden.
Igualmente, los filisteos también se equivocaron pensando que a Dios se le podía encerrar en un templo pagano y que lo podían dominar. Y se dieron cuenta que Dios era más que una caja de madera cubierta en oro que se podía mover al antojo de cualquier persona.

Reflexionemos con estos dos ejemplos de dos pueblos que tenían una noción parcial de quién era Dios. Muchos, hoy en día, piensan que a Dios se le engaña con ciertas acciones nobles y lindas sin tener que obedecer a Su palabra. Otros piensan que conocen de Dios y lo adoran a su manera.
Debemos acatar las reglas que Dios ha impuesto. En ningún momento debemos ponerle condiciones al Señor. No intentemos manipular a Dios con oraciones ni acciones. No inventemos formas buscando atajos y evadir nuestras responsabilidad, rindiendo cuentas por nuestras acciones.
Primero, debemos buscar y pedir el perdón de Dios, pedir Su dirección, y esperar que su gracia nos cubra y recibamos sus bendiciones. Ese es el orden de Dios.
¡No peleemos contra la voluntad de Dios ni Su Palabra! Más bien, sometámonos a lo que Él nos va enseñando para guiarnos en el camino correcto.
Recordemos que, aunque no entendamos Sus planes y designios, es mejor obedecer porque al final veremos la recompensa.

"¡Qué profundas son las riquezas de Dios, y su sabiduría y entendimiento! Nadie puede explicar sus decisiones, ni llegar a comprender sus caminos. Pues «¿quién conoce la mente del Señor? ¿Quién podrá darle consejos? ¿Quién le ha dado algo antes, para que él tenga que devolvérselo?» Porque todas las cosas vienen de Dios, y existen por él y para él. ¡Gloria para siempre a Dios! Amén." (Romanos 11:33-36, Versión Dios Habla Hoy).

Así que, pongamos en orden la forma en que nos acercamos a Dios para no equivocarnos como Israel y Filistea.

1 Samuel 5: It's not my way, it's God's way.

1 Samuel 5:6-12:
But the hand of the Lord was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and He ravaged them and struck them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territory. And when the men of Ashdod saw how it was, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand is harsh toward us and Dagon our god.” Therefore they sent and gathered to themselves all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?”
And they answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried away to Gath.” So they carried the ark of the God of Israel away. So it was, after they had carried it away, that the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction; and He struck the men of the city, both small and great, and tumors broke out on them.
Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. So it was, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people!” So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there. And the men who did not die were stricken with the tumors, and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

Yesterday we saw how the ark was hijacked by Israel's enemies. Although they took the ark as loot and as a symbol of conquest over Israel, they knew that the ark represented the presence of the Almighty God who had wreaked havoc in Egypt. That is why this conquest meant a lot, because for them this was a sign that their god Dagon was more powerful than the same God they respected so much, that they presented the ark of the God of Israel as an offering to the god of the Philistines. Their god, in the form of a fish, fell three times and was crushed in front of the ark! The Philistines also began to die from a plague that God had unleashed on them because they did not know how to treat the ark.
Although they knew of the power of the God of Israel and knew of His fame, they did not know that the ark had to be carried on the shoulders of members of the tribe of Levi. Many died and others were plagued.

Today's lesson shows us that God has established His parameters and His unbreakable rules. Yesterday we saw a trusting Israel, thinking that they had the coverage and protection of God and, at the same time, they could be in sin; they thought that the ark, the visible object that represented the presence of the invisible God, gave them that privileged position, but God showed them that this was not the order.
Likewise, the Philistines were also wrong in thinking that God could be locked up in a pagan temple and that they could dominate Him. And they realized that God was more than a wooden box covered in gold that could be moved at the whim of any person.
Let us reflect on these two examples of two peoples who had a partial notion of who God was. Many today think that God can be deceived with certain noble and beautiful actions without having to obey His word. Others think they know about God and worship Him in their own way.
We must abide by the rules that God has imposed. At no time should we put conditions on the Lord. Let's not try to manipulate God with prayers or actions. Let's not invent ways of looking for shortcuts and evade our responsibility, being accountable for our actions.
First, we must seek and ask God's forgiveness, ask for His direction, and wait for His grace to cover us and receive His blessings. That is God's order.
Let's not fight against God's will or His Word! Rather, submit to what He is teaching us to guide us on the right path.
Let us remember that, even if we do not understand His plans and designs, it is better to obey because in the end we will see the reward.

“Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways! «For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give Him advice? And who has given Him so much that He needs to pay it back?» For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:33-36, New Living Translation Version).

So, let's put in order the way we approach God so we don't go wrong like Israel and Philistia.

1 Samuel 4: Cuando un acto de bendición ya no es bendición.

1 Samuel 4:1-11:
Y la palabra de Samuel llegaba a todo Israel. Por aquel tiempo Israel salió en pie de guerra al encuentro de los filisteos, y acampó junto a Eben-ezer, mientras que los filisteos acamparon en Afec. Los filisteos se dispusieron para combatir contra Israel; y cuando se libró la batalla, Israel fue vencido ante los filisteos, quienes mataron en el campo de batalla a unos cuatro mil hombres. Cuando el pueblo volvió al campamento, los ancianos de Israel preguntaron: —¿Por qué nos ha causado hoy el SEÑOR una derrota ante los filisteos? Hagamos traer acá desde Silo el arca del pacto del SEÑOR, a fin de que venga en medio de nosotros y nos libre de mano de nuestros enemigos. Entonces el pueblo envió a Silo, e hicieron traer de allí el arca del pacto del SEÑOR de los Ejércitos, que tiene su trono entre los querubines. Ofni y Fineas, los dos hijos de Elí, estaban allí con el arca del pacto de Dios. Aconteció que cuando el arca del pacto del SEÑOR llegó al campamento, todo Israel gritó con un júbilo tan grande que la tierra tembló. Cuando los filisteos oyeron el estruendo del júbilo, preguntaron: —¿A qué se debe este estruendo de gran júbilo en el campamento de los hebreos?
Cuando se enteraron de que el arca del SEÑOR había sido traída al campamento, los filisteos tuvieron miedo. Y decían: —¡Los dioses han venido al campamento! —Y añadían—: ¡Ay de nosotros, porque semejante cosa no había sucedido antes! ¡Ay de nosotros! ¿Quién nos librará de mano de estos dioses fuertes? Estos son los dioses que hirieron a los egipcios con toda clase de plagas en el desierto. Esfuércense, oh filisteos, y sean hombres para que no sirvan a los hebreos como ellos les han servido a ustedes. ¡Sean hombres y combatan!
Los filisteos combatieron e Israel fue vencido; y cada uno huyó a su morada. Ocurrió una gran derrota, pues cayeron de Israel treinta mil hombres de infantería. El arca de Dios fue tomada, y fueron muertos Ofni y Fineas, los dos hijos de Elí.

Ya vimos cómo Dios eligió a Samuel como profeta. Su autoridad como líder espiritual crecía cada día en medio del pueblo.
Sin embargo, el pueblo tuvo que vivir uno de los momentos más dolorosos en la historia de Israel. Y fue cuando, por primera vez en su historia, el arca que debía estar dentro del tabernáculo de Dios fue transportada al campo de batalla porque los israelitas pensaron que, de esta manera, Dios estaría con ellos al traer el arca para que Dios les ayudara a ganar la guerra, ya que acababan de sufrir una derrota.
El pueblo de Israel pensó que trayendo el arca Dios iba a pelear por ellos; sin embargo, sus estilos de vida estaban en contra de la voluntad de Dios. Ellos vivían conforme a sus propios deseos y en pecado. Ellos estaban fallando al Señor, especialmente el sacerdote y sus hijos.
Es por eso que Dios ya no estaba en el arca, es decir, ya no se manifestaba cuando ellos traían sus ofrendas. Ellos asumieron que Dios los iba a proteger con solo traer el arca de Dios, ¡pero no estaban agradando a Dios!
En cambio, ¡los filisteos sí reconocían el gran poder de Dios, porque ellos tenían más temor de Dios que los mismos israelitas!
Una vez más fueron derrotados, y esta vez murieron muchísimos más israelitas que la vez anterior.

Espero que esta lección abra nuestros ojos para entender que no podemos reemplazar el temor de Dios con un acto religioso o espiritual. No podemos caer en el error de pensar que haciendo algún acto espiritual, podemos reemplazar el hecho de vivir vidas justas en la casa con nuestra pareja o hijos.
Hoy es el tiempo de cuidar el arca de Dios que representa el Espíritu de Dios en nuestras vidas. El apóstol Pablo nos aconsejó a no contristar el Espíritu de Dios. Si no cuidamos lo que Dios nos ha dado, entonces lo que hagamos como cantar, ofrendar o servir a Dios en algún área no va a contar como algo que agrade a Dios. Primero vivamos vidas dignas del Señor, que nuestras acciones siempre honren y agraden al Señor.
Jesus dijo que, antes de traer una ofrenda al altar de Dios, primero tenemos que arreglar algún malentendido con el prójimo. De lo contrario, ese conflicto con nuestro prójimo neutraliza la bendición de ofrendar a Dios.

1 Samuel 4: When an act of blessing is no longer a blessing.

1 Samuel 4:1-11:
And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines, and encamped beside Ebenezer; and the Philistines encamped in Aphek. Then the Philistines put themselves in battle array against Israel. And when they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field. And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from Shiloh to us, that when it comes among us it may save us from the hand of our enemies.” So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook. Now when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, “What does the sound of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” Then they understood that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp. So the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “God has come into the camp!” And they said, “Woe to us! For such a thing has never happened before. Woe to us! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. Be strong and conduct yourselves like men, you Philistines, that you do not become servants of the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Conduct yourselves like men, and fight!”
So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent. There was a very great slaughter, and there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers. Also the ark of God was captured; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

We have already seen how God chose Samuel as a prophet. His authority as a spiritual leader grew every day in the midst of the people.
However, the people had to live through one of the most painful moments in the history of Israel. And it was when, for the first time in its history, the ark that should have been inside the tabernacle of God was transported to the battlefield because the Israelites thought that, in this way, God would be with them by bringing the ark so that God would help them to win the war, since they had just suffered a defeat.
The people of Israel thought that by bringing the ark God was going to fight for them; however, their lifestyles were against the will of God. They lived according to their own desires and in sin. They were failing the Lord, especially the priest and his sons.
That is why God was no longer in the ark, that is, He no longer manifested Himself when they brought their offerings. They assumed that God would protect them just by bringing the ark of God, but they were not pleasing God!
Instead, the Philistines did recognize the great power of God, because they feared God more than the Israelites themselves!
Once again they were defeated, and this time many more Israelites were killed than the previous time.

I hope this lesson opens our eyes to understand that we cannot replace the fear of God with a religious or spiritual act. We cannot fall into the mistake of thinking that by doing some spiritual act, we can replace living righteous lives at home with our partner or children.
Today is the time to take care of the ark of God that represents the Spirit of God in our lives. The apostle Paul advised us not to grieve the Spirit of God. If we do not take care of what God has given us, then what we do like singing, offering or serving God in some area is not going to count as something that pleases God. Let us first live lives worthy of the Lord, that our actions always honor and please the Lord.
Jesus said that before bringing an offering to God's altar, we first have to settle some misunderstanding with our neighbor. Otherwise, that conflict with our neighbor neutralizes the blessing of giving to God.
