Hold Fast

In this episode of Hold Fast, we take a deeper look at a topic we wrestled with in our adult Sunday School class this past Sunday: forgiving someone you may never be fully reconciled with. What do you do when someone wounds you so deeply that you have zero desire to forgive them? What about when you want to forgive, but your emotions refuse to follow? And what about those painful situations where God has helped you forgive in your heart, yet the relationship itself may never return to what it once was?

We’ll walk through what Scripture clearly commands regarding forgiveness—toward believers and even toward our enemies—and why withholding forgiveness is never an option for those who belong to Christ. We’ll also consider the reality that forgiveness is relational, why reconciliation isn’t always possible, and how to discern righteous anger from sinful anger.

Finally, we’ll explore the temptation to demand “payment” from those who hurt us and why that mindset contradicts the very heart of the gospel. Christ’s sacrifice is enough—for their sin and for yours. Our calling is to forgive as we have been forgiven, to stand ready for reconciliation whenever repentance comes, and to entrust ultimate justice to the Lord.

In this episode, we reflect on the sobering fall of another prominent pastor and the warning it offers for our own walk with Christ. Scripture calls us to pursue holiness with vigilance, remembering Owen’s charge to “be killing sin or it will be killing you,” and recognizing that sin grows quietly when left unchecked. Yet this isn’t a self-powered struggle—God Himself works in us to will and to act for His good pleasure. As we bring our sin into the light, confess it, and rely on His sanctifying grace, we find both our greatest protection and our greatest hope.

As Christians, we often talk about “open doors” and “closed doors” when trying to discern God’s will—but how do we actually know when He’s opening one, or shutting it tight? In this episode of Hold Fast, we explore how Scripture uses this same language—like in Colossians 4 and Acts 16—and what it teaches us about trusting God’s direction. We’ll talk about practical questions to ask when facing new opportunities, how to walk wisely through the doors God opens, and how to respond faithfully when He closes one. Sometimes faith means moving forward; other times, it means staying put. Either way, the call is the same: trust the One who holds every door in His hands.

Many Christians ask, “How can anyone be against Israel when they are God’s chosen people?” In this episode, we explore what Scripture teaches about God’s covenant with Israel, what it means to be “chosen,” and how those promises are ultimately fulfilled in Christ. From Genesis to Romans, we’ll trace how God’s plan has always included the Gentiles and how true membership in God’s people comes through faith—not ethnicity. We’ll also consider whether God still has a future plan for ethnic Israel and why blind political support for the modern nation of Israel is not the same as biblical faithfulness.
