  • Living in the Endless Grace of Our Lord with Dr David Ford - 100

Join Cynthia for the 100th episode of the Holistic Christian Life podcast, as she welcomes Dr. David Ford as her first guest for Season Three.  Dr. Ford, an expert on the writings of St. John Chrysostom, shares his knowledge by talking with Cynthia about what he feels St. John’s advice would be for people living through trying times.  Drawing from his letters to St. Olympia, we know he has a lot to say!  You will find this episode encouraging and uplifting in every way!

    Bio:

Dr. David Ford is Professor of Church History at St. Tikhon’s Seminary in South Canaan, Pennsylvania.  He went to college at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where he majored in History.  Immediately after graduation he went to Liberia, West Africa, as a volunteer in the United States Peace Corps; he served there for three years in the field of education. Upon returning, he entered the M.Div. program at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Here he learned about the Early Church, and through his continuing study of the facts of Church History, he realized that only Holy Orthodoxy has preserved the fullness of the Christian Faith.

Having graduated with an M.Div. degree, he then began the Ph.D. program in Church History and Historical Theology at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. His wife, Dr. Mary Sanford Ford also works at St. Tikhon’s as Associate Professor of New Testament, and together they have co-written several books together.

Books that he has written, translated, or contributed to include:

    • Prayer and the Departed Saints
    • Marriage as a Path to Holiness: Lives of Married Saints
    • Women and Men in the Early Church: The Full Views of St. John Chrysostom.
    • Wisdom for Today from the Early Church
    • History of the Church, volume 3
    • The Glory and Honor of Marriage: Orthodox Christian Resources
    • Tikhon of Moscow: Instructions and Teachings for the American Orthodox Faithful (1898 – 1907)
    • The Letters of Saint John Chrysostom to Saint Olympia the Deaconess
    • The Life and Works of Metropolitan Leonty (1876 – 1965),
    • Healing Humanity: Confronting Our Moral Crisis
    • Sing to Your Soul, vol. 1: The Narration of Salvation History in Selected Passages by Saint John Chrysostom

In addition, Dr. David is in the midst of selecting and translating a collection of about 20 entire sermons by St. John Chrysostom which have not been translated into English either ever before, or only in antiquated English and/or are located in obscure places.

  • Existence vs Possession with Molly Sabourin - 98

Find out more about the Filled With Less community, and enjoy Molly’s teaching on how just existing, rather than always striving, is a form of gratitude that is life giving.  This topic is the March Deep Dive in their Living Everyday with Sacred Simplicity Membership, where they will go even more in depth.  You will be inspired and will learn about an exciting announcement and invitation!

    BIO:

Molly Sabourin is an author and podcaster for Ancient Faith Ministries as well as a wife of 20 plus years to her husband, Troy, and the mother of three teenagers and one young adult.

About a year ago, Molly found herself feeling overwhelmed, despondent, and listless after a particularly challenging season of her life and stumbled onto a documentary called "Minimalism." This film chronicled the journeys of individuals who had walked away from excess and compulsive consumption and embraced simplicity and intentionality as a way of life. The freedom and peace they discovered in the process was so inspiring to her, she began her own journey toward simplicity, intentionality and transcendence.

Decluttering her home led to the decluttering of all areas of her life, thereby reducing her stress and increasing her peace, joy, and productivity. Molly is passionate about pursuing, and helping others pursue, a more simple and calm existence.

  • 096 - Dr. Dave Pawsat - An Orthodox View of Medicine

Join Cynthia today as she talks with Dr. David Pawsat on many topics pertaining to our health, specifically getting into thyroid hormone and estrogen.  Dr. Pawsat explains his journey from a career in physiology, to 12 years as an ER doctor with his own health issues, to his own Center for Optimal Health.   His experience with Conventional, Alternative, Integrative, Anti-aging, and Functional Medicine makes him an excellent resource. If you have further questions for any of the Holistic Christian Life physicians, feel free to send them Cynthia’s way for future episodes!

Dr Dave Pawsat received a Bachelors of Science degree in physiology from Michigan State University. After college, he performed pulmonary function and sleep testing for Sinai Hospital in Detroit, where he was an integral part in the development of Sinai’s first sleep center. After being an ER doctor for 12 years, he opened The Center for Optimal Health. Dr. Pawsat has had
thousands of patient interactions and has developed an incredible patient community of very proactive, committed patients from very diverse backgrounds. The loyalty and enthusiasm for this new way of healthcare has grown beyond his expectations. The premise that medicine should begin by treating the cause, not the symptoms is the centerpiece of the practice. The skillful integration of conventional medicine combined with nutritional and hormonal therapies is the cornerstone of his care. Dr. Pawsat feels blessed to have found a way to help himself, but feels even more blessed to be able to share the skills, experience and knowledge in helping so many others regain their health.
