We know masks are a hot topic, and masking children is even more spicy. This episode is meant to share information so that you can make your own decisions for what you feel is best for your family. Masking children does carry risk, just as not masking also carries risk. The info in this session is a culmination of our years of education in health combined with up to date research. We hope you enjoy, listen with an open mind and heart, and share with friends.
Brent recently led a group through a life-changing 13 week program, where he taught the value of REAL food and how to easily integrate into your life. We talk about not only what to eat, but also how to eat. After all, so many health issues are simply from bad habits that are hard to break. Dr. Steph and Brent are both passionate about nutrition and there is so much info packed into this session! Bon appetit!
Brent and Dr. Steph discuss Attachment Parenting! This parenting style is all about connecting with your child, establishing a secure bond, anticipating their needs and building a solid relationship. While there are numerous books on the AP philosophy, these parenting styles always came naturally to Brent while he raised his four kids. When Dr. Steph learned about AP it just felt like it was in alignment with her lifestyle. AP incorporates the "7 B's" which are: Bonding at birth, Breastfeeding, Babywearing, Bed sharing/co-sleeping, Belief in baby's cry/language, Beware of baby trainers, and Balance/boundaries. In this episode we review a bit on each "B" and share how we have incorporated those concepts into our own families. We hope you enjoy!
With schools shut down and some states still under quarantine it looks like homeschooling is much more popular these days. This episode Brent talks about the benefits of homeschooling his four children and what a typical day looks like for his family. He shares how school can be customized for each child's learning style, making it fun, and so much easier on parents! Dr. Steph's kiddos are just too young for homeschooling so she asks tons of questions and Brent's answers help take the fear and stress out of it!
Dr. Steph has been working toward becoming a lactation consultant, in addition to her chiropractic practice, and in this episode she and Brent explore all the magic of breastmilk. The benefits, the beautiful adaptations and instinctual connection between mothers and babies. Steph breastfed her oldest until she was three and is still nursing her almost two year old, and tandem nursed them for a year. You can read more about that in her article below. All four of Brent's children were breastfed and weaned when they were ready. They both share not only their journey with breastfed babies but also clinical gems, practical tips and political challenges. This was a fun one you won't wanna miss!

We are so excited to have Care Messer on this episode! She's the founder of the Birth Education Center where she and her team teach Hypnobirthing and several other empowering birth prep classes; she's also a doula, and hosts doula matching programs for her families. She shares her perspectives on how to enter your birth without fear. This heartfelt discussion goes deep into our current pandemic birthing climate, and Care also shares her personal, and emotional birth stories. You don't wanna miss this one! It's JUICY!
Whoa. This is a long one. Brent and Dr. Steph take a deep dive into how to support your immune system through this pandemic. We start with a bit of perspective to help dispel fears and shift into functional nutrition to empower you with up-to-date evidence-based research. Brent explains what a cytokine storm is and what to do to prevent it in order to prevent your immune system from getting overwhelmed and getting sick. We touch on a few controversial issues such as vaccines, pharmaceutical drugs, and the media. We hope this information empowers you as it has us.
Brent and Steph are often asked, what's the ideal diet for my cycle? And the true answer is, there isn't one! But the good news is in this episode we go through many variations of cycles and foods to reduce your symptoms, making your cycle more predictable, easier to track and optimized for planning. Brent goes deep into inflammation and how it effects the skin, the gut, the brain and the rest of the body. They've broken down the complex science into easily "digestible" (see what I did there) basic terms that anyone can understand and implement.
We were so excited to interview our very first guest on the show, Jen Fisher, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Jen is a private practice therapist who specializes in perinatal mood disorders like depression and anxiety, and is also the current president of the San Diego chapter of the Post Partum Health Alliance. Dr. Steph and Brent interview Jen to discover what's normal, what's the difference between baby blues, depression and anxiety, and some practical tips on how to get help. We share some very candid experiences of our personal struggles, yet this episode has a lot of giggles throughout. We hope you enjoy!
