Jeff East

Jeff East is an American actor and producer with over 55 years of experience. He began his career at fourteen, portraying Huckleberry Finn in the musical "Tom Sawyer," which featured Jodie Foster and Johnny Whittaker. He later starred in a classic adaptation of "Huckleberry Finn" alongside Paul Winfield and Harvey Korman.

Jeff also showcased his musical talent with his bands, One Way Street and the Planet Band, and had a record deal with Columbia Records. He provided lead vocals for the CBS cartoon "Meatballs and Spaghetti" and worked on three films for "The Wonderful World of Disney" in 1974. 

In 1977, he played young Clark Kent in "Superman: The Movie," featuring Marlon Brando, Susannah York, Glenn Ford, and Phyllis Thaxter. The film became the number one box office hit of 1978.

In 1979, Jeff portrayed Jack London in "Klondike Fever" with Rod Steiger and Angie Dickinson, and Joseph the Carpenter in NBC's "Mary and Joseph: A Story of Faith." 

After marrying architect Lori Gates in 1980, he starred in Wes Craven's "Summer of Fear" and "Deadly Blessing." In 1983, he appeared in the nuclear disaster film "The Day After," the comedy "Up the Creek," and HBO's "First and 10." In 1988, he led in Stan Winston's "Pumpkinhead." 

Throughout his career, Jeff featured in over 100 national commercials and performed in numerous Off-Broadway shows. In 1992, he produced and co-starred with Jack Nicholson in "Blue Champagne."

Today, Jeff has taken a back seat to acting and started his own production company specializing in theatrical and media entertainment. He has several projects in the pipeline and lives with his family on the French Riviera in Nice.

In the latest episode of “Hollywood Obsessed,” host Tony Miros interviews actor, writer, and producer Jeff East who is best known for his portrayal of the teenage Clark Kent in Richard Donner's 1978 blockbuster film Superman: The Movie! 

During their captivating conversation, Jeff reveals at just 14 years old, he attended an open casting call for the movie musical “Tom Sawyer,” ultimately landing the role of Huckleberry Finn. This opportunity allowed him to work alongside talented actors like Jodie Foster and Johnny Whittaker, experiences that significantly altered the course of his life and shaped his relationships with friends and family. He reflects on his nationwide promotional tour for the film, which paved the way for the sequel, “Huckleberry Finn.” He also shares his unique perspective as the last contract player at Walt Disney Studios, where he starred in three films while adhering to strict guidelines associated with contract players. 

After his contract ended, he admits he was excited to film “The Hazing,” a more adult project. He also shares that landing the role in “Superman: The Movie” involved flying to London to film for a year, where he prepared to play the young Clark Kent by spending significant time with Christopher Reeve, whom he deeply admired for his dedication and professionalism.

Additionally, he recalls working with director Richard Donner and noted that much of “Superman 2” was shot simultaneously with the first film. He admits how he cherished working every moment on the impressive Fortress of Solitude set and the strong relationships he built with Terrence Stamp and Gene Hackman. And reminisces about working with Glenn Ford and Phyllis Thaxter, sustaining injuries during stunts, and witnessing the behind-the-scenes magic, like the iconic football-kicking scene.  He also expresses pride in being part of the Superman legacy and how touched he is by fans' reactions to Jonathan Kent's death. And reveals how he discovered later that Reeve had dubbed his voice in the final edit of the film and how upset that made him at the time.

During the second half of Tony's captivating conversation with actor Paul Pape he shares some amusing insights into how the sex scene in the car for “Saturday Night Fever” was created. He explains how the film company closed the entire top level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to traffic so they could film all the bridge scenes over a couple of days. He recounts how the scene where they scare Donna Pescow by pretending to fall off the bridge was filmed, as well as his memories of working with choreographer Lester Wilson on the various disco dance sequences. He also mentions that while he wasn’t the best dancer, his athletic background helped him get the moves down. Additionally, he describes what it was like to film on location at the 2001 Odyssey Disco in Brooklyn. He recalls how they had professional dancers working with them in the disco scenes to make everything look more realistic. His memories of working with Fran Drescher for just one day on set and his experience collaborating with the stunt team and fight coordinator Jimmy Gambina for the climactic gang fight scene they shot. How unprepared the cast was for how massive the film would become. He shares his thoughts about the sequel, “Stayin’ Alive,” the Broadway adaptation of "Saturday Night Fever,” how things changed for him after Fever came out, and his transition to Hollywood. How he began doing voice-over work to make ends meet, which he is grateful that it has blossomed into a long and successful career for him.  And how he played an instrumental role in creating the Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and expresses pride in its establishment. He also takes pride in the longevity of the film “Saturday Night Fever” and how it has touched so many lives around the world.

Paul Pape began his professional acting career in New York as one of the original members of the Collonades Theater Lab (a repertory company). He did his apprenticeship with CTL, that also featured future notables Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Jeff Goldblum, Kathleen Noone, Peter Scolari and Michael O'Keefe. After going Off-Broadway to appear with Kim Hunter in "The Cherry Orchard", Paul was cast to co-star as 'Double J' opposite John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever".

As a producer, Paul founded Red Wall Productions in 1998. The company had their offices at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood and produced several short films, which garnered fourteen film festival nominations - resulting in awards for producing, directing, editing and writing.

A member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Paul served on the Board of Directors of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation for eight years, where he is a Founder of the Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab - a half million-dollar facility dedicated to the development and success of voice-over artists. He is currently Co-Chair of the Lab's Advisory Board, in addition to serving on the SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Voice-over Performers Committee.

In the latest episode of “Hollywood Obsessed”, host Tony Miros interviews actor Paul Pape, best known for his role as "Double J" in the 1970s classic “Saturday Night Fever”. 

Paul reflects on how he’s no longer surprised that the film remains beloved after 47 years. How after he finished his education, he apprenticed at the Collonades Theater Lab in New York City alongside future stars like Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum. He also had the thrill of performing in “The Cherry Orchard” with Kim Hunter. He notes how “Saturday Night Fever” was the first film he auditioned for. Interestingly, he mentions that he hadn’t read the New Yorker article that inspired the film before his audition. He remembers that he had been a doorman at a New York jazz club during his audition and used his background going to an intercity high school with working-class kids to connect with his character. How filming drew thousands of onlookers because of John Travolta's fame, how the cast bonded during the process, and Travolta was gracious with everyone. He also shares that working with director John Badham was a fantastic experience and appreciates how the story authentically represented the area. He also expresses his doubts that a film like this could be made today. He notes that Paramount Pictures was unprepared for the film's success, which contributed to a revival of disco culture, and highlighted the soundtrack as particularly memorable. Additionally, he mentioned that he and Donna Pescow have remained close since filming, praising her extraordinary performance in "Fever." He recounted the memorable White Castle scene in "Fever," revealing that he chose to moon the people inside the restaurant to elicit the reaction that director John Badham needed from the crowd in that scene.

During the second half of Tony's captivating conversation with successful writer-producer-director Kenneth Johnson, they discuss various aspects of his iconic work, “V: The Miniseries.” Kenny shares insights into how he conceived the miniseries, the development of its special effects, and the profound impact of actress Dominique Dunne's tragic death on the production. He also explains how the miniseries is dedicated to her.

He recounts his innovative strategy of placing propaganda posters around the country to promote the miniseries and reflects on his surprise at the excellent reviews it received. The miniseries ultimately became one of the highest-rated science fiction productions of all time. He discusses the series of events that prevented him from creating a second miniseries, including a falling out with Warner Bros. that led him to walk away from the entire “V” project. During their fascinating conversation, Kenny tells podcast host Tony Miros that his fascination with radio and TV production began when he heard Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds", which led him to become 'The Drama Guy' in school, and how he later attended Carnegie Mellon University where he joined the Theater Department. After graduating, he moved to New York to direct and produce live television, eventually becoming the executive producer of "The Mike Douglas Show." He later relocated to California to make movies but struggled to find directing jobs until he became a TV writer. His talent was recognized by successful producer Harve Bennett, who discovered Kenny through a spec script and invited him to write for "The Six Million Dollar Man." Kenny's creation of the character Jaime Sommers resulted in the spinoff series "The Bionic Woman." During this time, he served as writer, director, and producer for both "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman" simultaneously. Following their success, Universal Studios asked Kenny to develop a series based on Marvel's "The Incredible Hulk," where he cast Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno and ran for five-seasons on CBS, earning him the nickname 'The Sci-Fi Guy' in Hollywood.

During the second half of Tony's captivating conversation with former teen idol and actor Michael Gray, they discuss why actor Jackson Bostwick left the role of Captain Marvel after just one season on "Shazam!”, what it was like when actor John Davey took over the role in season two, his memories of the many great guest stars that appeared on "Shazam!" and expresses his thoughts on the spinoff series "The Secrets of Isis," particularly regarding its star, Joanna Cameron. He recalls the experience of working on crossover episodes where Captain Marvel and Isis appeared in each other’s shows, his sadness over the show's cancellation, and he discusses how he struggled to find work afterward because he was too recognizable as Billy Batson. Additionally, he reminisces about running a flower shop in Beverly Hills with his wife for several years, how he became good friends with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, and his joy in landing several guest-starring roles as an adult, including appearances on shows like “Comic Book Men” and four episodes of the animated series “Archer.” Finally, he reflects on the lasting impact of "Shazam!" and how his fans continue to remember him as Billy Batson and as a teen idol.

MICHAEL GRAY 

Good looks and a couple of television roles helped to put actor Michael Gray in public eye. Also, for many years in on the covers of "Tiger Beat" magazine.

Born in Chicago, Michael moved to Florida when he was a young boy.

He caught the acting bug in high school, and eventually made his way to Hollywood.  In 1972, Michael won the role of Ronnie on the NBC series The Little People, a charming sitcom that starred Brian Keith as a pediatrician with a practice on Oahu, Hawaii.  The series was reworked for the second season and retitled The Brian Keith Show, and Michael was let go.

Signed to a management deal with Charles Laufer, pubisher of "Tiger Beat," Michael was able to keep a high profile while rounding up other acting roles. Michael's second series came in 1974, when he was cast in his signature role, as Billy Batson on the Saturday morning series Shazam.  The series ran for 3 years but was then cancelled due to increasing production costs.

Some of Michael's other credits include: Room 222, Marcus Welby M.D , The Flying Nun, Run Simon Run, Myra Breckenridge, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Bobby Joe and the Good Time Band, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, The Brady Bunch, Our Time, Dinah and Dynasty.

Today, Michael has added to his TV credits having been on FXX's hit show "Archer" and AMC's "Comic Book Men".

He's currently getting ready to go on the "Comic Con Circuit" after just doing "Monterey Comic Con".

The ever-youthful Michael Gray is happily married and living in Northern California.  He is currently writing a book about his life in Hollywood.

During their candid conversation, Michael shares his memories of being one of the biggest teen idols of the 1970s. He recalls how he couldn’t leave his apartment building or attend a concert without being mobbed by teenage girls. How his family moved from Chicago to Miami, Florida when he was a kid. How an agent approached him after school to encourage him to become an actor. This led him to participate in school plays, Summer Stock productions in North Carolina, and after graduating high school, he studied for three years at the Pasadena Playhouse. He reminisces about his childhood love for the “Batman” TV show and how he met Burt Ward and Adam West while making appearances at auto shows across the country. How his career skyrocketed after guest-starring on popular TV shows like “Room 222,” “The Flying Nun,” and “The Brady Bunch.” He also reflects on his role in the TV series “The Little People,” where he worked with Brian Keith in Hawaii. Good looks and a couple of television roles helped to put actor Michael Gray in public eye. Also, for many years in on the covers of "Tiger Beat" magazine.

Born in Chicago, Michael moved to Florida when he was a young boy.

He caught the acting bug in high school, and eventually made his way to Hollywood.  In 1972, Michael won the role of Ronnie on the NBC series The Little People, a charming sitcom that starred Brian Keith as a pediatrician with a practice on Oahu, Hawaii.  The series was reworked for the second season and retitled The Brian Keith Show, and Michael was let go.

Signed to a management deal with Charles Laufer, pubisher of "Tiger Beat," Michael was able to keep a high profile while rounding up other acting roles. Michael's second series came in 1974, when he was cast in his signature role, as Billy Batson on the Saturday morning series Shazam.  The series ran for 3 years but was then cancelled due to increasing production costs.

Some of Michael's other credits include: Room 222, Marcus Welby M.D , The Flying Nun, Run Simon Run, Myra Breckenridge, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Bobby Joe and the Good Time Band, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, The Brady Bunch, Our Time, Dinah and Dynasty.

Today, Michael has added to his TV credits having been on FXX's hit show "Archer" and AMC's "Comic Book Men".

He's currently getting ready to go on the "Comic Con Circuit" after just doing "Monterey Comic Con".

The ever-youthful Michael Gray is happily married and living in Northern California.  He is currently writing a book about his life in Hollywood.

During the second half of Tony's captivating conversation with film producer, director, and actor Andrew Stevens, they discuss how the glamorous miniseries “Hollywood Wives” came into his life, how Jackie Collins initially did not want him to play the lead role of ‘Buddy Hudson’ until he did something that ultimately swayed her opinion. He reminisces his fond memories of working with Aaron Spelling and the all-star cast. He also reflects on his experience working with Peter Falk in the TV movie “Columbo: Murder in Malibu”, explains why he quit acting in 1993, what it was like to direct episodic television such as “Walker, Texas Ranger,” and the reasons he kept turning down the role in the thriller “The Seduction” alongside Morgan Fairchild. Additionally, he shares the complexities of his relationship with his mother, including years of estrangement, and how they hadn’t spoken since her passing in 2004. It was the omission of her name from the In Memoriam segment during that year's Oscar broadcast that prompted him to create a documentary about her life entitled “Stella Stevens: The Last Starlet,” how this project has helped him come to terms with his mother, and he reflects on his thoughts about Hollywood today compared to when he started his career in the 1970s.

Andrew Stevens is a film producer, director and actor who has produced and financed over 175 motion pictures from micro-budgeted independents to mega-budgeted studio theatrical releases. 

The only child of actress Stella Stevens, he started his acting career appearing in cult thrillers such as “Massacre at Central High” (1976), “Vigilante Force” (1976) and “Day of the Animals (1977), as well as the cult horror Brian DePalma film “The Fury” (1978) starring Kirk Douglas. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his performance in “The Boys in Company C” (1978), and later starred with Charles Bronson in two films, “Death Hunt” (1981) and “10 to Midnight” (1983). 

Stevens also starred in the TV mini-series “The Bastard” (1978) and “The Rebels” (1979), based on the John Jakes novels. He appeared opposite Dennis Weaver and Susan Dey in the short-lived drama “Emerald Point N.A.S.”, he played a playboy/tennis bum in “Columbo: Murder in Malibu”, and was one of J.R. Ewing's stooges Casey Denault, on “Dallas”, for two seasons, beginning in 1987. He also played Ted Rorchek in the 1981-82 television series “Code Red”. He was the male lead in the miniseries “Hollywood Wives” (1985). And also starred in the erotic thriller “Night Eyes”(1990) and its sequels.

Stevens has directed twelve feature films, including three HBO premiere movies and one SHOWTIME premiere movie, as well as and multiple episodic television shows including, "Walker Texas Ranger", “General Hospital”, “Swamp Thing” and “Silk Stalkings”. 

In early 1990, Stevens left the public eye to become an independent entrepreneur writing, producing, directing and financing films for his own companies. He was President/CEO of Franchise Pictures, which produced films for Warner Bros. from 1999 through 2005, including “The Whole Nine Yards” and its sequel, “The Whole Ten Yards”, as well as “The In-Laws”.

Named "One of the most prolific producers in Hollywood" by the Hollywood Reporter, Stevens' films have generated over $1 Billion in world-wide revenues. He currently operates Andrew Stevens Entertainment and Stevens Entertainment Group. He continues to produce and sell movies in addition to being an author, educator, motivational speaker and industry consultant.

On the latest episode of Hollywood Obsessed, host Tony Miros interviews film producer, director, and actor Andrew Stevens. Stevens is best known for his role in the glitzy miniseries "Hollywood Wives," based on the work of author Jackie Collins, and for portraying Casey Denault on the hit 1980s prime-time soap opera “Dallas”, in which he appeared for two seasons.
