  • Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of...Torah-observance?
Paul taught that just as Yeshua fulfilled the Torah, when we walk according to his Spirit we too will fulfill the Torah. He also said that an unspiritual mindset will automatically reject the Torah. Let's unpack that. This is a takeaway from my newest Hebrew Verses study. We also talked about why we say Yeshua instead of "Yay"shua even though that's how it's vowel-pointed, why everyone has roughly the same idea of a perfect world, how goofy your body "guf" is (and some other fun memory pegs), and how to understand those mysterious abbreviations in the footnotes. • Why were the disciples sleeping under the Rabbi's bed? (This isn't a joke!)
Jesus didn't make up discipleship. There were lots of rabbis and disciples. What he did do was invite people into a rabbi-disciple relationship with himself, and he's still doing it! What if learning about the Jewish way of discipleship could help you understand that relationship better? This is a takeaway from my newest Mishnah Snapshots study. We also talked about what a Sukkah is and isn't, why Shammai the sage tore a hole in his in-law's roof, if Yeshua was the only Hebrew guru who told parables, and the Jewish holiday when they shake it...like shake the lulav. • Why does it say which exact day Yeshua said "If anyone is thirsty..."?
The New Testament was written by Jews. Here's an example of how discovering the Jewish backdrop of the Gospels can bring the old stories to life like never before. This is a takeaway from my newest Mishnah Snapshots study. We also talked why Jared Kushner's bouquet didn't have any flowers, the gorgeous Hebraic Bible commentary of Reformed Baptist preacher Dr. John Gill, one of the GOOD "takanot of the Rabbis" which kept people from losing an eye, and how the commandments are the seeds of Kingdom culture and just how positive that is! • We should be swooning over foreknowledge and predestination, not fighting!
Falling in love with a god. Or that moment when someone you don't recognize walks up and says they knew you long ago. Or how about the overwhelming deja vu that you were meant to be here, right now. Let's look at the Hebrew words for foreknowledge and predestination and see if we can't feel the romance and mystery anew. Because he is here. This is a takeaway from my newest Hebrew Verses study. We also talked about what to do if your Bible reading is getting boring, how falling in love with a god sounds like mythology but it's real, the best news ever if you love glitter and sparkles, and how Yeshua interceding for you right now is the stuff of superheroes. • What was going down on "the last day, the great day of the feast" anyway?
"IF YOU'RE THIRSTY COME TO ME AND DRINK!" Did you know Jerusalem was in the throes of an ecstatic celebration when Yeshua jumped up and yelled these immortal words, and that this ceremony stopped for almost 2000 years until it was started again in 2014? How about the meaning of "Siloam", were you aware that it was lost but that it contains a key for understanding the mission of Messiah? This is a takeaway from my newest Mishnah Snapshots study. We also talked about which Psalms were prayed on which Festivals, how I came to grips with commandments that aren't in the written Torah, how the Mishnah displays internal evidence of historical accuracy, the lost meaning of "Siloam" and how it charges the story with new power, and that they're doing the ancient Water Libation ceremony in Jerusalem again. • You CANNOT understand Paul unless you DEEPLY LOVE the Jewish community, here's why.
Paul talked about national Israel in overwhelmingly positive ways, and the gut-wrenching care he felt for the Jewish community was a reflection of Yeshua's own heart. If you don't get that you're not going to get Paul, because that fierce love is the context of his writings. What would it look like for that same love to take over your life? This is a takeaway from my newest Hebrew Verses study. We also talked about the main point of Romans 9-11 and how it's not predestination versus free will because it's ISRAEL FOREVER, how to see more of the glory of God in your life and church, why you shouldn't hide your antisemitism behind verses from Paul taken out of context, and an example of Hebrew wordplay in the Epistle to the Romans. • The reason you can do everything in the name of Yeshua is because you are IN him!
It's neat to read about the relationship that disciples had with their rabbis in ancient Judaism because it's a picture of the relationship that we have with our Rabbi from Nazareth. Here's an example. This is a takeaway from my newest Mishnah Snapshots study. We also talked about why Abraham's bosom is the Hebrew emblem of the afterlife, the real Hillel sandwich which was two Gamliels between three Shimons, an instance where the Jewish religious leaders followed Rabbi Yeshua's teachings, the difference between judging and perceiving mode, and the Paternitas and Mandorla in Christian iconography. • Ever heard the URBAN LEGEND that Judaism's a religion of works?
Have you ever heard somebody say that Christianity's a religion of grace and Judaism's all about works? It's not true. Take a look at this prayer that millions of Jews pray every year on the Day of Atonement that tells it like it is. I'll even sing it for you! This is a takeaway from my newest Hebrew Verses study. We also talked about the Hebrew word for patience and how it means to take a long breath, the dark angel Apollyon and the meaning of his Hebrew name Abaddon, whether or not you love the Old Testament and read from it as much as the Apostle Paul, and how the guys who wrote the Bible came from Middle Eastern honour cultures which to Westerners seem extreme and are hard to understand, and how different Hebrew NTs render a controversial verse possibly stating that Christ is God. • Who is Yeshua? And what's his relationship to God?
Izzy here. A question came up recently in our volunteers circle about Messiah and his relationship to his "Abba". This impromptu video was my response. Originally it was intended as a private discussion, but I decided to share it with you here as a peek behind the scenes, a chance hear our Tribe's heartbeat and feel the passion that drives me personally. The five questions I raise in this discussion are: Would we rather know Yeshua personally or talk about him like he's not in the room? Are we trying to understand a super-dimensional Being from a dimensional perspective? Are we factoring in all the relevant Bible verses? Are we actually defining our terms? And, how do we respond to Yeshua being glorified by the Spirit and worshipped in Heaven right now? If this resonates with you you're probably already part of our tribe. • This ancient Jewish doctrine makes the Gospel absolutely sizzle
There's an old Jewish teaching that a righteous person's "merit" has the power to positively affect the people around them. Does Messiah have merit? And if so, is that a paranormal power that could affect you? This is a takeaway from my newest Mishnah Snapshots study. We also talked about whether your relationship with the Jewish community is mostly about judging or trying to understand, the "if this, then how much more that" equation in Jewish logic, what's pictured by snowflakes, olive oil, crystal, and frankincense resin, and how the New Testament concepts of "worthy" and "by grace through faith" can be compatible.
