30年前，何燕兒創立了她的第一個品牌布言布語，當時她使用的是珍貴的天然面料。她決定保留裁剪後的布料碎片，而不是扔掉它們，漸漸地，她的倉庫里堆滿了這些珍貴的碎片布料。然而，但是當時她還不知道如何利用這些碎布。

1994年，何燕兒在貴州、雲南和西藏等偏遠地區旅行時，發現了一種用舊衣服修補棉被的傳統做法。不同的紡織品被剪成小條，然後重新編織面料。

在過去的三十年中，何燕兒一直致力於創建一個循環使用天然紡織品的微型生態系統。通過她的品牌Mengji Nongga，她推廣使用回收的布料碎片，並幫助一些中國農村裡的婦女增加收入，這種 "永續 "的方式也使服裝保持了其美學價值。這樣，它們就能在時尚界不斷變化的潮流中脫穎而出，同時提供一種可持續的時尚選擇。

所以邀請她做播客，實在有些勉強她做不擅長的事，但是在我看來，她的聲音帶著一種深沉的催眠，卻也充滿力量，當我們聊到為何她的品牌要叫「布言布語」時，她害羞地說，因為她不擅長說話，她所有的表達都在布裡面了，因此，「 不言不語」 也是「布言布語」…

Thirty years ago, He Yan’er founded her first brand, Buyan Buyu, using precious natural fabrics at the time. Instead of discarding the leftover fabric scraps after cutting, she decided to keep them. Gradually, her warehouse filled up with these valuable fabric remnants. However, at the time, she didn’t yet know how to make use of them.

In 1994, while traveling through remote regions such as Guizhou, Yunnan, and Tibet, He Yan’er discovered a traditional practice of mending quilts using old clothes. Different textiles were cut into small strips and then rewoven into fabric. Over the past thirty years, Chinese designer He Yan’er has been dedicated to creating a micro-ecosystem that recycles natural textiles. Through her brand Mengji Nongga, she promotes the use of recycled fabric scraps and helps women in rural China increase their income. This “sustainable” approach also preserves the aesthetic value of the garments, allowing them to stand out amid the ever-changing trends of the fashion industry while offering a more eco-friendly alternative.

         喜林苑創辦於2008年，在來自美國的林登夫婦及創始團隊的努力下，雲南大理喜洲文化遺產建築楊品相宅被成功修繕，以文化交流中心和精品酒店的身份重新面向世人，致力於當地傳統文化的保護與傳播，經過20年的努力，如今的喜林苑發展成為一個集精品酒店、體驗式旅行、沉浸式教育計畫、社區營造為一體的當地文化集合體「A Culture Complex」。2025年1月初，美國人布萊恩林登（Brian Linden）經營的第6家喜林苑酒店在雲南省迪慶藏族自治州德欽縣奔子欄鎮試營業，開啟他探索和推廣中國文化的新旅程。

           Linden Centre was founded in 2008, It is an award-winning boutique hotel offering the intrepid traveler an inspiring exploration of Southwest China. The property, renovated by the Lindens, is one of their attempts to preserve local Bai heritage and introduce curious travelers to a different side of China. The Linden Centre has been consistently ranked as a top Dali hotel and has gained international recognition for its commitment to cultural sustainability and heritage preservation.  After 20 years of effort, Linden Centre has evolved into a "Culture Complex"—a local cultural hub integrating boutique hotels, experiential travel, immersive education programs, and community building.

          In early January 2025, Brian Linden opened his sixth  Linden Centre hotel in Benzilan Town, Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, beginning a new journey in exploring Chinese culture.

At the beginning of 2022, I had the privilege of accompanying Yifan, the editor-in-chief of the anthropology e-magazine Others, to Linden Centre’s residency program in Shilong Village, Shaxi, Yunnan. Throughout the experience, I was warmly guided and welcomed by Brian Linden and the villagers of Shilong, a memory that still warms my heart. As this episode’s guest, I find it difficult to summarize my thoughts on Brian and his work in just a few words. Instead, I would like to quote my reflections during Yifan's residency interview:

"Shilong Village is a soft place in my heart."

廣袤太平洋上星羅棋布的小島，這些島民分布之廣令人嘆為觀止——從馬達加斯加到復活節島，幾乎橫跨了半個地球。他們現在的生活習慣雖各有不同，但是依稀保留著幾千年前的影子。比如用最原始的腰織機製作筒裙，將整片的樹皮敲打成衣，還有紋面等等。

GaoYu高煜，紡織與部落藝術（tribal arts）方面的獨立研究員，收集整理研究世界各地的傳統紡織品和紡織傳統。好奇心驅使他不斷向前方追溯歷史，追溯本源，將目光投向了考古學以及世界各地現存的“原始部落”，在當地進行考察並研究其物質文化，而紡織品則是物質文化中重要的組成部分，衣食住行作為人類生活的基本需要，穿衣的需求排在首位，紡織品與人類的親密關係可見一斑。選擇紡織品作為探索文明的線索也因為最初被其精美的工藝，豐富的造型所吸引，而後發現符號與圖騰背後所蘊藏的文化及歷史意義。

Scattered across the vast Pacific Ocean, countless small islands are home to islanders whose wide distribution is astonishing—stretching from Madagascar to Easter Island, covering nearly half the globe. Although their present lifestyles vary, they still retain echoes of their ancestors from thousands of years ago. For example, they use the most primitive backstrap looms to weave tube skirts, beat entire sheets of bark into clothing, and practice facial tattooing, among other traditions.

Gao Yu, an independent researcher specializing in textiles and tribal arts, collects, organizes, and studies traditional textiles and textile traditions from around the world. Driven by curiosity, he continuously traces history and origins, turning his attention to archaeology and existing "primitive tribes" worldwide. By conducting field studies and researching their material culture, he has found that textiles play a crucial role in material culture. Clothing, alongside food, shelter, and transportation, is a fundamental human necessity, highlighting the intimate relationship between textiles and people. His choice to explore civilization through textiles was initially sparked by admiration for their exquisite craftsmanship and diverse forms. Over time, he discovered the profound cultural and historical significance embedded in their symbols and totems.

Lin Han, curator and founder of DaoHe Plant Dye Studio in Beijing, is currently engaged in the restoration of ancient plant dyeing techniques, as well as research and innovation in dyeing and resist-dyeing patterns. She teaches at Tsinghua University’s Dyeing and Clothing Department, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, and various national art and intangible cultural heritage projects.

She has led the red dye restoration project for the Palace Museum and serves as an intangible cultural heritage consultant for JNBY, Her long-term fieldwork spans regions such as Daliang Mountain, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Hainan.

     〈迷工造物〉是陶藝家章格銘於2007年設立的夢工場。色澤優美的青磁，古典的冰裂紋開片，如抽象畫與寫意墨點一般的鐵斑紋，以及經典的陶瓷、金屬、木料的異材質結合，成就了新與舊合一、精準與鬆緩合一的完美茶器，同時也成就了迷工造物大膽創新的獨特風格：近十年來，章格銘幾乎成為異材質茶器的代表人物。他將傳統工藝與喝茶文化轉化為新時代的風尚，他所創作的器物與傢俱，已經成為著名茶人、收藏家與藝術家茶案上的絕美風景。

      "Mi Gong Creations" is a dream workshop established by ceramic artist Zhang GeMing in 2007. The beautiful celadon glaze, the classical ice-crack patterns, the iron spots that resemble abstract paintings and freehand ink dots, and the combination of ceramics, metal, and wood, have resulted in the perfect teaware that merges new and old, precision and relaxation. This also established Mi Gong Creations' bold and innovative unique style: Zhang GeMing has almost become a representative of mixed-material teaware over the past decade. He has transformed traditional craftsmanship and tea-drinking culture into a new era trend. The objects and furniture he creates have become exquisite scenery on the tea tables of famous tea enthusiasts, collectors, and artists.

        In this episode, we dissect the inner journey of the creator with ceramic artist Zhang GeMing, exploring a self-spiritual transformation from perfection to imperfection. Especially after his eye injury caused by his creative work, how has this injury further nurtured the subtle relationship between the artist's life and creation? 「他者others」聯合創立人及執行主編吳一凡一直關注世界各地的原住民文化。在她看來，那些多種多樣的、和現代社會不同的價值觀雖然看似遙遠，卻依然為我們提供了更多相連的可能性和出路。為此，她踏上了自己的旅途。

In Finland, legend has it that the aurora dances to the rhythm of music, and the Sami people chant to soothe the reindeer; in Australia, the Aboriginal people use songlines to make the Dreamtime eternal; in Fiji, people sing the traditional farewell song Isa Lei to say goodbye...

Wu Yifan, co-founder and executive editor-in-chief of "Others"(Magazine） has always been concerned with the cultures of Indigenous peoples worldwide. In her view, those diverse values, different from modern society, may seem distant but still offer us more possibilities and connections. For this reason, she embarked on her journey.

In her book, Yifan uses words and images to record her journey visiting ancient tribes worldwide. The children of the forests in Lapland told her the revelations of nature, while the Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory of Australia keep the secrets of their ancestors. Where are the "elves" in Iceland now? Is there another way to measure time on the islands of the South Pacific? How do Native American tribes interpret history and decide the future? As the world undergoes a large-scale shutdown, how do people get closer to each other? When the feeling of being "on the road" is rediscovered, is the world still the same as yesterday?

Yifan brought her new book to my interview. In the book, she says: "Traveling to distant places and encountering ancient tribes, across ice fields, deserts, oceans, and forests... there are roads and songs. There, everything is connected."

After graduating with a degree in psychology, Kore Adan met yoga instructor Dario Calvaruso, which started her journey of spiritual awakening. She went to Innsbruck University in Austria to further her studies in Peace and Conflict Research and began traveling the world. Her experience working at a meditation center in Switzerland completely reshaped the trajectory of her life. She reconnected deeply with herself, with nature, embracing freedom, spontaneity, sincerity, and sensitivity. She hopes to lead "Healing HeArts" to take root in China, offering chanting meditation and all aspects of spiritual healing to those in need.

          XinLin昕霖，環境教育者，生態文化研究者，  從鄉村到城市，從藏地森林學校到西班牙Ibiza島水源保護，她结合自己在雪山島嶼駐地生活和旅行的经验探讨“基于地方”的教学理念，并以此想象“后发展时代(PostGrowth)”中的自然和自我的关系，治癒地球的同時得到內在轉化和成長和社區的福祉提升。

1，創建一個支持生態區域主義的學習生態系統，收集整理數據、故事、真實挑戰和最佳實踐

Are the things we cannot see in this world influencing the things we can see? Are we being guided every moment by a larger, invisible force? What does nature mean to us? How do we treat the environment we live in, and through the environment, how do we come to understand ourselves?

XinLin (昕霖), an environmental educator and ecological culture researcher, from rural areas to cities, from Tibetan forest schools to the Ibiza Water Protection Forum in Spain, combines her experiences of living and traveling in snowy mountains and islands to explore the concept of "place-based" teaching. Through this, she imagines the relationship between nature and self in the "Post-Growth" era, achieving inner transformation and growth while healing the Earth and enhancing community well-being.

"Design School for Regenerating Earth"

1. Create a learning ecosystem that supports ecological regionalism, collecting and organizing data, stories, real challenges, and best practices.

2. Weave local restoration projects into a coherent network of work based on geophysical features of the natural world, such as watersheds, coastal estuaries, and mountain ranges.

3. Establish an ecosystem of collaborative funding and governance based on ecological regions, pooling resources to enhance the function of regional ecosystems and human well-being.

       Iris Luo，康奈爾大學以人為本的設計博士在讀，研究者、寫作者、策展人。研究興趣主要集中在原住民文化、社區營造、博物館語境中的公民教育。
Iris Luo is an interdisciplinary researcher, curator, and educator from China. She explores the intersection of ontological design and knowledge justice with culture, technology, and ancestral memories. From digital archiving to participatory action research, her work focuses on knowledge production through intra-action among pluriversal worldviews and challenges the bias of cognition. Using storytelling and visual/multi-sensory narratives as tools, her goal is to imagine and nurture alternative pedagogies that prioritize land/water-based agency by bringing trans-local collaboration into cyberspace that is interconnected within the global.       ( Instagram: iris_lynn0104 )
