Power bills are coming in from our cold weather!
Did you use too much electric heat to stay warm or was it ON without you knowing?
“How do I know when my emergency heat is on?"
One way to know if your electric heat is on and working is if you go to your thermostat and look, it should be indicated by saying electric heat is on and there might be a red light, or it might also say auxiliary heat.
If you have an older thermostat you will see that auxiliary or emergency heat light on. Another thing that I would do is to have maintenance performed on the system before the heating season because some people can get surprised that their heat is running with the emergency heat on and there is some kind of malfunction. It may be working, you’re comfortable, but then the power bill comes in and it's over a few hundred bucks, and your stuck thinking “what in the world is going on?”.
I would get maintenance done before the heating season just like before the cooling season. Get it checked out to make sure everything is working properly and make sure everything is good to go because you don’t want to get stuck with that large bill at the end of the month.
