One of the most important teachings in the life of our church: How do we change to become like Jesus? The promise of the New Testament is nothing short of full-on transformation, but so many of us feel a disconnect between that promise and our reality. Is change really possible? The answer is: yes, but the odds are, it's not what you think. Pastor Stephen continues our Following Jesus vision series.

Pastor Stephen wraps up our first series with what the philosopher Dallas Willard called “the great enemy of spiritual life” - hurry. To live the way of Jesus, we have to slow down. But this is hard to do in the urban, digital world we call home. In this teaching from Matthew 11, we teach on “the secret of the easy yoke.” When we slow down and match our pace of life to that of Jesus, the way of Jesus becomes easy.

Central to Jesus' vision of the Kingdom of God is the calling of a brand new family, not built around ethnicity, but around the family of God. We can have an active part in that family through commitment and intentional, relational living. The skill of navigating conflict and emotions is key to thriving in the family of God. 

We all long for friends, but it can be a struggle to find them. As the world around us is becoming increasingly lonely, what can we do to build solid friendships? Community plays a vital role in our transformation. But there is a gap between the idea of community and the messy reality of community. Discipleship happens in the space in between.

Long before followers of Jesus ever built cathedrals, they met in homes, around a table, eating and drinking as brothers and sisters. As family. This is a very simple idea that tragically we’ve lost over the millennia, at great cost to the church. What if we were to recapture the shared meal as the center of gravity in our church?
