Publisher's Summary:
A cowboy romance with a heart of gold, in Home on the Range author Ruth Logan Herne returns listeners to the Double S Ranch where God and family are first, but love is certain to follow the Stafford menfolk.
Nick made all the wrong choices for all the wrong reasons. His father had failed at marriage and fatherhood. Nick was determined to show him up. He'd be a better husband, better father, and a better ranch manager than Sam Stafford ever hoped to be. But Nick's wife Whitney hated the ranch and she walked out on Nick and their two beautiful daughters three years ago. For a long time Nick pretended everything was fine, and when his stubborn nature is finally challenged by trouble with his young girls, he's faced with the changes he should have made long ago.
Psychologist Dr. Elsa Andreas had a thriving family therapy practice, a school commission, and a good life, but tragedy pushes Elsa to walk away from her life. Three years later, she's tucked herself in the backwoods of Gray's Glen. When her sister encourages her to help Nick Stafford's daughters, Elsa takes a chance. But Nick's ex-wife comes back to town, threatening the girls' newfound stability. Can Nick find the forgiveness and Elsa the courage to build their own home on the range?

Life on the ranch had me wanting to move to Gray's Glen and experience Home on the Range!
A return trip to Gray's Glen is a delightful trip back to the Stafford ranch, where Nick is the son who's truly at Home on the Range. He's the divorced second son who stayed behind on the Double S, keeping it going and raising his two daughters, while his two brothers left to follow their own pursuits.
Home on the Range is Ruth Logan Herne doing what she does best, developing complex characters with depth who are dealing with difficult modern day relationships.
Nick and Elsa remind me a bit of Elle and Matt, from Herne's book, More Than a Promise. A struggling clueless father who finds help for his children and love for himself, where he's not really looking for it, in the most unlikely of places. I loved Elsa, a truly caring person, so easy to love. Nick's my kind of hero, a man who does the right thing, even when things have not gone well for him. His girls, Dakota and Cheyenne, bring just the right amount of heart-melting charm and frustration to Nick's parenting.
The overall theme of Home on the Range is being honest enough with yourself to face the truth and deal with the issues involved. Each member of the family is put in the position of doing just that and there are plenty of issues to deal with, pride, arrogance, guilt, anger, wounds of the heart and soul. Herne deftly deals with each one, bringing the story to a sigh-worthy conclusion.
Home on the Range is a well written inspirational story that points to God being the One who brings the healing to the challenges of life. I loved the story with all it's highs and lows, twists and turns. It's my favorite in the series so far and I'm so looking forward to Trey's story, Peace in the Valley, next spring.
I Love Home on the Range
This is an encouraging story about healing the damages from the past and second chances. Else is wise as a counselor to nick about his two daughters but she also has a soft vulnerable side. I loved seeing Sam evolve and enjoyed watching the ranch girls develop.
