Happy New Year and The HomeGrown Community Podcast is back for 2021.  We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year.  We hope you will come along with us as we seek to mend the bridges and bridge the gaps in the community.  In this episode we explore many aspects of US democracy as it relates to race, racism, patriotism and the overall health of our nation.

In this episode we introduce Homegrown music producer who goes by the name "No Comparison".  We discuss his new single "New Rhules" and his new sound for the culture of Hip hop coming out of North Carolina.  We touch on topics such as artist's independence and the responsibility to give back in the community.   No Comparison is one fifth of the TMG  production team that is committed to developing and producing young Homegrown talent.

We took a break for three weeks but now we're back with more Homegrown content.  This week we talk about Covid-19 and how we need work harder to fight it. Producer and co-host Tumaini Johnson shares his personal experience with the virus and how he overcame three tough weeks in quarantine.

Dwayne is the owner/operator of Game Truck Charlotte, hear how he turned his lifelong dream into a successful business that gives back to the community in many ways. This episode is definitely for the "Gamer Geeks" and "Nintendo Nerds" alike.  But really for anyone looking to "Level Up" in life. "There are no cheat codes in life" but Dwayne talks about how his love of video games has helped him navigate tough situations in his real life. 

This week's interview is with High Point native Timothy A. Minor.  

We discuss the importance of building a strong network, finding mentors and keeping the values learned at home close to your heart.  Timothy Minor is the vice president for University Advancement for the University of North Carolina System.  Timothy served as the associate vice chancellor for University Advancement at North Carolina A&T State University for five years where he led fundraising initiatives and day-to-day operations of A&T’s central development office.  Timothy attributes his successful career to his roots growing up in High Point North Carolina, where the most valuable lessons in life came from family friends teachers and coaches who mentored him.

The death of George Floyd while in police custody has sparked outrage, anger, sadness and a great deal of pain.  Police brutality and violence against African-Americas is regular occurrence throughout U.S.  history.  When will we say enough is enough? how will we heal from this this?  In times like these when pain and anger is boiling over, its the honest conversations with friends that help us cope.  In this special Homegrown Community Podcast episode we speak with High Point's own and Photojournalist J.J. McQueen.  He offers insight on how we heal.
