Welcome to the podcast Navy SEAL veteran, Jose Arteiro. Jose was born in the United States but moved to Angola, Africa as a young child. When civil war broke out, the American Red Cross evacuated him and his mother to his parents home country of Portugal. Later, as a teenager, he would move back to the United States and eventually serve the country of his birth. In this episode learn more about his upbringing and journey to become a Navy SEAL, his service experience and subsequent medical discharge, and how he works with SEALs today.

On January 12, 2010, a catastrophic earthquake struck Haiti affecting three million people. Governments and organizations from around the world came to help, including Coast Guard Cutters Forward, Mohawk, and Tahoma, already on patrol in the Caribbean. Thirteen years after the recovery efforts, we welcome two of the commanding officers of those cutters to this episode.

On May 2nd, 1968 Army Master Sergeant Roy Benavidez, armed with only a knife, jumped into action to help a 12-man Special Forces patrol who were surrounded by nearly 1,000 men. He would later be awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, four Purple Hearts, and the Medal of Honor for his valorious actions in combat.
Today, on the 24th anniversay of his passing, we welcome his daughter, Yvetter Benavidez Garcia, to the podcast to continue her father's legacy by inspiring and educating others about his story.
