Welcome back to the “Homely House Podcast”! I’m Ashton, and it’s my honor to introduce some incredible women who embody the heart and soul of home. Tonight, I’m thrilled to share the mic with the lovely Susan Crump.

When I think about my Su this quote from C.s. Lewis always comes to mind:

“In friendship...we think we have chosen our peers. In reality a few years' difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another...the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting--any of these chances might have kept us apart. But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking no chances. A secret master of ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you," can truly say to every group of Christian friends, "Ye have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another." The friendship is not a reward for our discriminating and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which God reveals to each of us the beauties of others.”

This could not be more true about the origin of my friendship with Su. God chose this beautiful sister just for me and I am forever grateful to Him for it.

C.s. Lewis once said this about friendship:

“Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”

This could not be more true about the origin of my friendship with Britt. We found each other through our favorite things and, like Lewis and Tolkien, delight in fellowship around all that is good, beautiful, and true. In many ways, we are cut from the same cloth. The lessons Britt has taught me about music, art, and beauty are truly priceless. Anywhere Britt is, you’ll find that life runs deep and meaning abounds - and I mean stupid deep!

Welcome back to the “Homely House Podcast”! I’m Ashton, and it’s my honor to introduce some incredible women who embody the heart and soul of home. Tonight, I’m thrilled to share the mic with the lovely Jess Ponder.

I’ve had the privilege of walking through life with Jess Ponder for over a decade, and in that time, I’ve been blessed to witness God’s goodness through her warm and welcoming home. She is my Lewis to my Tolkien, my laugh-until-your-ribs-hurt friend, and my fellow foodie. She has held my hands on some of my hardest days and gently pointed my eyes to Jesus. A co-conspirator and a hostess extraordinaire, she has helped bring to life one of my favorite hospitality events of the year. Her home is a gift that keeps on giving—filled with laughter, delicious food, deep wisdom, and an overflow of Christ’s love.

One of my favorite memories with Jess is the day I spent living my best life, pretending to be a Rider of Rohan or part of Aragorn’s army alongside her amazing sons, Ash and Luke. We blasted The Lord of the Rings soundtrack, raced around my house on scooters, and shouted “FOR FRODO!” as we bravely battled every orc our imaginations could conjure. It’s a memory I will always cherish. The Ponder boys are a true gift to our community—a reflection of the warmth, love, and adventure that fill their incredible home.

I’ve had the privilege of walking through life with Christina for over a decade, and during that time, I’ve been so blessed to witness God’s goodness through her homely house. From soaking up her gift of sewing to gleaning wisdom from her home remedies, and cherishing her sage advice on loving husbands and raising children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, Christina’s impact has been profound.

One of my core memories of Christina is the time she brought me a delicious meal after I had my first baby. The comfort and care she showed me in that moment is something I’ll treasure forever.
