  • Episode 68: Time For Spring Testing
    In the education world — where teachers and parents often live — March marks the beginning of spring testing. Thankfully, the Homestyle podcast is hosted by a teacher and an education reporter, so they've got plenty to say on the matter.
    In this episode you'll hear:
    << co-hosts Leigh Guidry and Joe Cunningham break down what spring testing looks like in Louisiana and at different grade levels;
    << they even share some of their own memories of standardized testing, and Joe gives some real-time perspective as an Advanced Placement teacher prepping for that among other tests;

  • Episode 67: Facing Stress
    The past year has been a hard one, with major stressors like a global pandemic and riot at the Capitol as well as more "normal" worries like deadlines and kids. Homestyle podcast co-hosts Joe Cunningham and Leigh Guidry have been freeling the stress and anxiety, and they know they're not alone. So this week they go over ways they're dealing with it in hopes that it helps others to face the stress.
    In this episode you'll hear:
    << the many ways stress can manifest in your life (and how Leigh and Joe are seeing it right now);
    << how to face stress immediately in the moment with breathing exercises and hitting "pause" however you can;
    << hobbies you can try as self-care, from reading or binge-watching "Chopped" (Joe) to running or creating something with your hands, even if it's just Play-Doh with the kids;
    << reminders that you're not alone and to ask for help from friends and professionals, which can be accessed more easily now via apps and teletherapy;
    << encouragement to face the stress rather than let it fester. Journaling and talking it out can make a world of difference.
    What's stressing you out? How are you dealing with it (or not)? Let us know in The Homestyle Podcast Facebook group and or at @Homestylepod on Instagram and Twitter.

    This week's guest on the Homestyle podcast is an expert at crafts and gives us the kid's perspective on making art. Since the show is all about family, co-hosts Leigh Guidry and Joe Cunningham invited Leigh's 6-year-old daughter, Avery Guidry, to talk about one of her favorite activities. (Leigh couldn't be prouder.)

    << her favorite projects, from making slime to painting and air dry clay;
