It's amazing as we look at the scriptures this week after Easter and how things are changing for the disciples. They have finally gotten together in this room and probably are discussing everything that had taken place and what they were to do now. They're locked away. They're still afraid. They're afraid of what's going to happen to them. But in a miracle of miracles, the Lord appears to them. the doors are locked but he's right there in front of them first thing he says is peace be with you. That's a great gift that he has to offer them peace but we know that they will not always be at peace they're going to have many temptations ahead of them they're going to have great suffering and pain if the first thing that lord says is peace be with you not only once but twice but Three times, he says to them, he's through with me. They're all gathered except for one, Thomas, called Didymus. I think we're very much like Thomas. We want to be able to see the Lord physically. We want to be able to put our finger into his nail knots, our hand into his side. I know from many of us as priests, we long for that day where we could have that miracle take place on the altar. When that host becomes Christ's actual body, when the wine becomes his true blood that we can see it changed. That's a rare occurrence. But the reality, it does take place. That host becomes his body. That wine becomes his blood. There's no greater gift for a priest than to be able to perform this incredible gift of sacrifice for our brothers and sisters and for ourselves, that we need that grace and that blessing to be put into our bodies. That too, we can be refreshed, that we can be made anew. That's a wonderful gift that we receive through the 40 days of Lent. And these wonderful 50 days after the season of easter when we grow in the love and the presence of god to know that after these 50 days when the lord would ascend and the great gift of the, pentecost when the holy spirit would come upon the disciples that we too are blessed the holy spirit has been given to us in baptism and in confirmation and now in the gift of the eucharist, that we become the body of christ for our brothers and sisters that we take christ that we have consumed and take it out to our brothers and sisters by the way we live our lives by the way we treat one another how we love one another we bring the face of god to our brothers and sisters as this wonderful gift of light that gives to us throughout the Easter season that we celebrate at baptisms and funerals the light of Christ that is ever-present in our midst and that we become that flame for our brothers and sisters for the life that we live. May the Lord continue to bless us and strengthen us in this Eucharist that we can be that gift of grace, blessing, and love for our brothers and sisters.
