This week the Church begins a new liturgical year with the first Sunday of Advent. The readings this week invite us to consider how we are preparing both for the coming of the Lord at Christmas, but also at the end of time. To prepare the way of the Lord we should cast off deeds of darkness and live as children of the Light.

This Sunday marks the last Sunday of Ordinary Time. The Church dedicates this last Sunday to the kingship of Jesus. In particular, we see how Jesus the King reigns from the Cross and inaugurates a kingdom of mercy and salvation.

This week Jesus speaks to us about the coming persecution and the end of the world. He also speaks to us, though, about the confidence we can have in God's love for us. We should, therefore, persevere in the faith and look forward to the coming of the Lord at the end of time.
