Today’s show is a special edition of Hoodoo Voices: The 5 Hoodoo Talents & What Is Yours? Our interview excerpts today derive from a female Hoodoo Doctor from Savannah Georgia, she does not provide us with her name but refers to herself as a “Woman of Substance.” Her interview is extraordinary and provides us with elements of “philosophy and theology”, ingredients often omitted in modern-day Hoodoo. Hyatt’s demeanor is delightful as he interviews “The Woman of Substance” and he himself describes her as truly gifted and possessing talents. He also makes reference to the complex information obtained from her simplicity in delivering information.
On the next episode of Hoodoo Voices, Seer and I will share and dissect the full interview, however today we want to focus on an important element: “The 5 Talents.” The Lady of Substance remarks that she possesses ALL of the 5 talents and gives in detail what each talent is. The purpose of today’s show is to dissect the theology on spiritual gifts given to us from an early 19th-century Hoodoo doctor and also to help each of you listening discover what your gifts are.

In the following interview, Dr. Johnson provides us with a wealth of not only magickal but medicinal uses for roots and herbs.
Dr. Johnson’s interview is not only important from a magickal, medicinal, or folklorist point of view, Dr. Johnson represents a fractured portion of American history that often has no voice, the Black American Indian. Dr. John describes himself as being the son of a chief of the red nation from what is now Oklahoma.
