Welcome to Hope Church Guildford's message from Sunday 9th January 2022 - "The cost of following Jesus", exploring the what Jesus tells us about following him from Mark Chapter 9 verses 30 to 50.

As we draw back together again regularly, in groups and on Sundays, we felt that it was fitting to rekindle and ignite our love for Jesus. He is the head of this church, and we want to be a people who follow him, trust him, and are madly in love with him. Sundays are going to be an exciting time to remind ourselves about Jesus' mission to ‘proclaim the Good News of God’.

Welcome to Hope Church Guildford's Christmas Carol Service from Sunday 12th December 2021.

Centuries before Jesus was born, Isaiah looked on at the state of his nation and saw darkness covering the people. Yet he had hope in a future king that would be born to us.

As a people the past two years has brought to light lots of brokenness and darkness in our times too and in this talk Chris encourages us that Jesus is the hope in our brokenness and peace in our troubled times.

At the half way stage of Mark's gospel there is a wonderful unveiling and revealing that Jesus is the messiah. Yet it's immediately followed by confusion and a partial realisation of who Jesus is and what he's come to do. In the message Simon reminds us of the Glory of Christ.

On Sunday Tobi joined us from Compassion UK to continue our series in Mark and also celebrate the great work that we do as a church through Compassion in sponsoring and supporting Children's health and education around the world.

Compassion is passionate about releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name. As a Church we therefore love to support their work and hear from them regularly about the impact that Hope Church is having through its members with people in the poorest of nations.

In this Talk Jesus challenges the pharisee's on their rule keeping. Stuart shows us that it's not so much that having rules are an issue, but that we should see them as guidelines, and not a substitute for following Jesus.

At the end of Chapter 6 we hear the famous stories of Jesus feeding the 5000 and Jesus walking on water. These events take place at the end of the disciples first missionary journey. They're exhilirated but also exhausted, yet in these passages we find out that being a disciple of Jesus is 24/7 and that our needs a better fulfilled serving Jesus and others, then ourselves.

In the first verse, Mark outlines his vision for his gospel – “The beginning of the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God”. This book is fast paced, Jesus focused, drawing us into God’s plans to see the Gospel go forth throughout the nations.

In Mark Chapter 6 we get the first missionary journey that Jesus sent his disciples on. In the midst of telling us about this journey, Mark chooses to take this moment to tell us what happened to John the baptist in Prison. Why? Because Mark see's a clear link between the seeming success of the disciples and John the baptist.
